Eagles I can see (despite it being ubiquitous). Don't think the NHL would allow "Golden" though, seeing as Vegas were denied their first choice, Black Knights, due to Chicago's objection.

A player once raised his NMC when a team was rumoured to be moving and was shot down by the league before even trying to make a formal argument. It was either Doan or Tkachuk IIRC.

I don’t know, sounds like a bunch of whiners to me. “But I have a NTC! You can’t sell this franchise!!!”

The Arizona Coyotes, a notoriously struggling team, then Scorpion comes in to cover them in their new arena and they immediately fold.

I thought maybe it was taxes but there's really not a whole lot of difference.

That's my point. That original agreement with Muruelo. It has to have provisions for league to recoup through any gains on sale. No way they would let Muruelo walk away with gains while league and owners wear all of the accumulated losses from supporting this mess.
There is an article in Nevada paper of all places saying he gets his money back but no more. I doubt his original purchase price was $1b as stated. It was probably some cash outlay like $700mm plus showing some funding to back a reserve to absorb foreseeable losses.

Forbes reported the purchase price in 2019 at $300 million. I'm pretty sure he will make a lot of money off of this sale, he's not going to go quietly otherwise.

Lots of the players like living in Arizona, nice climate during hockey season, golf courses always open, and no one knows who you are. Salt Lake winters are a bit different than the Phoenix metro area. The party crowd in Utah might nor be as wild as what ASU has to offer either. Biz nasty taked about how much he enjoyed that atmosphere when he guested on Pat McAfee one day.
When Atlanta moved to Calgary a lot of the older veterans were traded out of town within the first couple seasons as Calgary was a small cold remote and expensive place compared to Atlanta.

NTCs are not NMCs. If the team relocates and you have an NTC, tough titties, because you weren't traded. If it is an NMC, I can see giving the player the option to waive the clause and move with the team, or nullify their contract.

NHLers have not been flocking to the Coyotes. Maybe a better run organization would be a magnet for attracting players.

I thought the battle was with the US Army over the name Black Knights and Golden Knights.
The only answer is bringing back the Salt Lake Golden Eagles.

I am sure it had everything to do with the uncertainty around the franchise and lack of fan support. In their early days, they were attracting or keeping a lot of big name players. Playing in Mullett probably wasn't too exciting for players, especially younger guys craving a major league experience.

They should continue the tradition of Louisiana-themed teams names and be the Salt Lake City Gators.

I'm not sure if the NMC argument would fly, but it would be really interesting if a player were in their late 20s and wanted to opt out of the last few years of their deal to cash in a retirement deal as the cap jumps...especially if their original deal was front loaded.

Lol, the thing is, I don't know if you've ever been to the rink in Tucson, but it might be the worst hockey facility on the continent. Mullett blows it out of the water in every respect.
It's a convention center with a pad of ice wedged in.
