What happens if the Panthers pick is top 10, or what if they're both top 10?
Edit: Nvm, sorry. I should have just looked it up. The trade was for CGY's pick (not Florida's), so in all other scenarios MTL would just get CGY's pick.

That's a huge legacy to live up to. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jarome requested the Flames pass on his kid. That's a lot of pressure to put on a kid.

Fair, but I think pro athletes are built a little bit different when it comes to pressure. He's been playing hockey as "Jarome Iginla's kid" his whole life already and he's gotten this far.

This would likely happen. I’ve heard of the exact thing in a recent draft with a first rounder but with much smaller profile than Iggys.

The pick is gone though anyway...Panthers sucking doesn't hurt the Flames any more or less in terms of assets. They play Montreal twice a year.

Tij is having a solid season and is now getting some draft rankings where he goes in the first round. Would be a crazy story if the flames acquired some late first rounds picks and used one for him.

That would for sure have to be considered before drafting him. Long shot he will be drafted by the flames and it it might not even be the best position for a kid to develop under those circumstances. It would be a great story and moment for the fans and for the Iginlas if Jarome got to call his sons name at the draft though.

I’m in the camp of the draft being such a crapshoot anyways, and this would be huge for the fans. If he’s available at the end of the first and we’ve already gone with a safe pick early, draft Tij!

hard pass from me. I know many on here will disagree with me, and I get it. But imagine the pressure on the kid ... it's not just being the son of a former Flame, it's being the son of the greatest player to ever don this jersey. I honestly wouldn't wish that on the kid and I think it'd be best for him to go to a team Jarome didn't play for. Let him carve out a name for himself.

If the Flames can't come storming back into a playoff berth, I sincerely hope Florida improves and the Flames pick is top ten so that they keep it.
Either scenario is great in my book.

Iggy thrived under pressure. Tkachuk played here while his Dad and family watched. I personally think he could thrive.

but Keith Tkachuk never played for the Flames, so it's a completely different situation. Tij will always have the pressure of being the son of an NHL great, just like Matthew has ... but if it's the franchise your dad is synonymous with, I think it's a completely different animal.

Who cares? What do you think Iggy would tell him, as well as every one else around the team?
This isn't a toxic hell hole like Edmonton where those expectations would exist.
Surnames aside, the Flames need more pure-snipers in their system. Tij fits that to a tee.
I really doubt Iggy would purposely divert them, either. He would be doing the organization he works for a disservice.

My guess it they may both have very similar characteristics, very driven and hard to play against. I think fans would embrace him and not expect him to be scoring 40 goals a season. I would rather see him here than lighting it up for some other team. We may have to disagree on this one but your take could certainly be true, but I think he would thrive. He is doing it on his own now and if he ended up on the Flames it would be under his own merits.

As long as he doesn't go to Edmonton or Vancouver, I'm ok with BPA.

I wouldn't mind if he went to a team like NYI, CAR, CBJ, PHI or PIT. Those destinations are pretty inconsequential.
Edmonton can't get enough forwards though, and care about storylines. They would ####n do it.
