Any chance that Russ killed him? His methodical interview with the woman near the beginning of the episode and his pragmatic suggestion at suicide, followed by his visit to the child he saved, suggests he may be taking this with a personal sense of justice. He's already talked about how his daughter's death saved him the sin of fatherhood, so I think he looks at children as the last pure thing in existence.

Yep. I love the attention to small details. It's kind of sad this show is going to end in a few weeks.

Awesome show!
Love how at the start of the show you could see that Cohle was trying to feel the two detectives out to find out if they are also part of the cover up, but seems to have determined they are essentially like him and Hart were 10 years ago when they were the ones investigating and he's now performing for the camera, seemingly talking to those responsible.
The girl that Cohle went to talk to in the institution mentioned the man with scars on his face - that was that big groundskeeper guy Cohle went to see at the church with Hart right?

I thought it was series with each new season having a different crime with a different location and characters? So attention to detail in future seasons should be similiar, however the actors and circumstances will be different.

Maybe he just means this SEASON. Hard to imagine season 2 being quite this good, everything is just functioning so flawlessly, but I'm sure the bones of the show won't change.
From what I read, the write had this particular story as one of many pitches, and this is the one that got a look. He also has been creating it as he goes along, which lends to the possibility that he could come up with something equally good on the fly (hopefully!).
Though, he's apparently in high demand now, so who knows what's going to happen! Just love this show!

As long as Nic Pizzalato is in charge, the show will be fine. Also, HBO is known not to meddle too much.
Whenever the original showrunner/writer leaves, the show goes to sh-t. For example, Clyde Phillips left Dexter after season 4 for personal reasons..and we saw what happened.
Nic Pizzalato will keep this show steady

It's supposed to show that in 2002 he's "settled down" and is buying the tampons for his daughters and wife. And then he breaks and goes to the bar, and for whatever reason decides to bring that stuff with him. Though it didn't hurt him with T-Mobile girl.
And to showcase the great writing later on he is referred to as "The Human Tampon"

I'm pretty sure he did. Don't you remember him in his boss office looking like a sack of crap, and the boss commenting on how he looks like he hasn't seen his own bed for a few days?

With the attention to detail part I love that Hart took off his wedding ring and put on gloves before he beat the two in the jail up. Didn't leave any evidence behind, nor did he hurt his hands in the process.

More of the same drawings appear in two scenes...
Thread on reddit about it.

I wonder if there is going to be any merit to all the reoccurring images in the series?

Only flaw I could see is that the former prostitute turned phone salesman girl said she hadn't tried anal before. I'm thinking that would be a top request in the trailer park brothel she was working in.
