Kane didn't even play last season until the playoffs, so how would his absence now be part of the reason they are underachieving in the regular season?
Their main issue is goaltending. Don't get me wrong, they still lose last night but with better options than Sewer Stinker and Pickard, it's probably a 4-1 or 5-1 game that just gets moved on from without much discussion.
Also not to take away from their bad defensive play or that they rely too heavily on the powerplay, all issues for sure. Half decent goaltending probably has them at least a couple of games about 0.500.

What goals were the goalies' fault?
Every goal was a wide open shooter who had time and space - absolutely horrendous defense. And no effort whatsoever.

Yeah, I just watched the highlights and the goalies were pretty well hung out to dry. The Avs had all the time and space in the world to pick their spots.
No backchecking at all.

I saw Oilers fans calling Makar's goals soft.
If Bouchard scores those they're bragging about how he sniped it.

I wouldn't say the goalies were at fault, but they still have to make saves. I think better than below average goaltenders save a few of those, especially if they they ae not being screened and there aren't any deflections.

Time and space to pick a target, from the top of the circle. Either it hits the goalie or it doesn't, but there is no time to save those.
And the first one was post-and-in far side (perfect shot), and the second (from the exact same place, with just as much time), he went short side, just over the pad.
Are you hoping for a save here and there? Of course. But those are not on the goalie.

They weren't being screened because the shooters were all alone, and in close. Pickard made some big saves when he came in. But if you leave NHL shooters all alone in front, they are going to beat the goalie regularly.

One of those is not like the others.

All of them are 1st overall picks except Eichel (2) and Carlsson (2)?

Expected goals were close to 9...Oilers goalies actually made a few miracle saves last game. Avs weren't just taking random shots, nearly every one was a good look.

20% of the way through the season, and ANA, SEA, and SJS are ALL ahead of the Oilers.

Why would anyone on the Oilers backcheck when both the wondertwins think that kind of thing is beneath them. Backchecking doesn't get you points which is all those two clowns care about.

Would be really funny if the oilers traded their 1st round pick in 2027 for Binnington. He’s not worth a 1st round pick IMO but St.Louis should not be looking to do any favours to a desperate oilers team.
|
After the offer sheets to Broberg and Holloway, I'm pretty certain the Blues aren't in the buisness of doing the Oilers any favours.
