I wish I could be happy over a decisive win. But I cannot rationally and logically find happiness in a result that is a movement towards perpetual mediocrity rather than long term excellence.
The Flames have less than a 1 in 500 chance of winning the cup (MoneyPuck). If not the cup, get the best draft pick and secure as much prospect development as possible.

Your unhappiness is what's not logical.

a. You don't get extra chances in the lottery by finishing really last versus barely last (which the Flames are right now). No team wins zero games. So in the few games that the Flames win, just enjoy it, especially when it's a 1000 game event. This win likely won't prevent them from fisnihing wherever they finish. Right now the Flames are tied in points with the Blues, who have a game in hand and will end up much higher, and three points behind anyone else.

b. Cup or nothing is an illogical dichotomy. You are saying a finals appearance is worse than "getting the best draft pick".

c. Even if the Flames finished first in the league the chances of winning the cup wouldn't be over 50%.

Impossible to cheer for a loss last night.
Glad they got it done for Kadri.

As a Flames fan I cheer for my team, win or lose. I can't imagine it any other way. If while cheering for my flames, they end up with the worst record in the league and get the mystical #1 draft pick great. If while cheering for my flames, they end up in the "mushy middle" as many of you call it and we just miss the playoffs again ... great!

What gets me is the absolute elation when they lose for something that is not guaranteed, and the utter disappointment after a win for something that is not guaranteed.

Be a fan, just enjoy the ride. I choose to be happy either way!

We are not good enough to win anything, but not bad enough it seems to tank for McKenna.

Stuck in the middle again unless we trade a few players. Not good.

They're in last place.

They've won a couple of games and are still in last place. Guess who else had big wins last night? San Jose and Chicago.

It's okay to enjoy a win every once in a while.

And reminder - the last place team has won the lottery 30% of the time (which approximates the actual lottery odds).

Do you ever get tired of complaining?
What a miserable way to be.

People need to go on Tankathon and see just how difficult it is even being in last place to win the lottery. I'm not even on Team Tank and I was discouraged.

At this point it's just trolling (successful at that).

I am 100% on team rebuild, but these posts of lamenting a win are insufferable.

Flames were not going to go 0-68 the rest of the season. This was a big win at home to celebrate a player's 1000th game. They should have played this way on Backlund's 1000th, but they didn't. They made sure to come out hard for this one. I am glad they did. This is one of those wins that you want to see happen, regardless of where you are in the spectrum of wins or losses. This was an important win to get. It is sad to see people complaining about it.

Wins are good, too, especially if the play of potentially tradeable veterans in those wins boosts their trade value. Coleman, Backlund, Kadri, and Frost got goals, and Andersson got an assist. Mission accomplished.

Also, it doesn't hurt for young players to experience what it takes to win. That's how an organization avoids being Buffalo, or Edmonton before McLottery.

Winning is good for the culture. Playoffs is gravy. If we don't make the playoffs, I am not going to be disappointed because this was expected. We are still rebuilding, like it or not. You don't have to be a dumpster fire team and rebuilding at the same time.

Yeah and also if people think Wolf is important at all, then him having good games is key. You can't shatter his confidence. After a bit of a shaky start to the year, he's started to look more like the guy from last year.

It took me 5 tries yesterday for the Flames to actually stay with first overall. The Oilers managed to win the lottery before the Flames came up for me.

3-5 for me this morning. One try took me like 6 or 7.

Sure getting 2 or 3 would still be good but the most vocal seem to think getting McKenna is a lock if they finish last.

Its not 1st oa or bust though.

Any of those top 5 would be an amazing grab for us, and really elevate our future outlook.
