Funny thing -- the neighbour lady asked me what I was doing out there and I said "practicing for a fight with some 5-year-olds" and she gave me quite a look.
Ha ha. I forgot all about that. That was a good thread.

I am surprised nobody came up with my answer.

1000.

After all of them are shoehorned into there, they will be crushed by their own mass. Since I am also in there, my legs will also be crushed. But I am taller, so my upper body should be ok – therefore I will live.

No victory without sacrifice.

As for the 4 year old bully – call social services and the police. Bullying is no longer tolerated in our society, and trespassing is against the law. We have "enforcers" in our society for a reason.

Let me ask you this. What happens when you come outside and see your child out cold and bloody with a rock beside him and the 4 year old laughing?

Still not ready to call the cops?

It does not have to be an adult assaulting an adult before police are involved.

When our daughter was in Grade 2, there was a Grade 6 bully, who would go around during recess and kick the little girls, my daughter being one of them. One day our daughter came home with such a bad bruise and such a limp that we had to take her to emergency. The doctor at emergency told us this was assault, no matter what the age and that police should be involved if this happened again.

We then talked to administration at the school and informed them this was the LAST time this would happen to our daughter, and how they made that happen was up to them. And we informed the school that police would be involved at the next circumstance as well.

We then phoned the parents of the bully, identified ourselves and made them aware of what their son was doing and then we told them the same thing we told administration at the school.

Luckily, that was the end of it.

I would call both social services and police and explain the situation and ask for advice as to how to proceed.

For those who suggest you abuse the bully, you abuse the father of the bully, etc, you are nuts. That simply is not how you deal with issues and it will teach your children nothing except "an eye for an eye"

And the bully dies? And it is fair as in love and war? Where on earth is your mind? This is disgusting, as bad as those who throw poison out for dogs.

I think that most people's suggestions were made in jest. A way of saying "I agree with you- the other people are in the wrong." There's no harm in thinking of bad things to do. I think everybody here is of the same mindset- get the police and/or social services involved.

The bottom line is no matter what happens the OP's nephew will always live next door to a boy who is 2 years older than him. And it's one thing to have bullies at school; it's another to be afraid of leaving you own house to play in the yard. That is why it's best to handle this in a civil mannor- teach both boys how real men settle their differences- with a handshake.

I can't stop laughing at this post. I really wish we would have gotten some video or pictures with that one.

Very funny thread!!

Video tape the event and have a chat with that brats parents. If that doesnt solve it, you may need to take more formal measures.

The very first answer was correct, no two-year old should be anywhere unsupervised outside. When I watch my nephews, either they are asleep or I have an eye and/or ear on them, even indoors. Kids are dumb as stumps, they WILL do stupid, dangerous things if you are not there watching them.

Is it possible to take out a restraining order on a 4 year old?

-Try to talk to the parents in a respectful manner. Make them aware of specific instances of their childs behaviour.
-Most reasonable parents should understand your concern and be concerned about their childs behaviour. Im hoping that they neighbour assumed the kids were rough playing or something similar and not the 4 year old straight out assaulting the younger child.
-If the parents of the 4 year old are crazy and think its ok what their child is doing then you have a problem.
-If you call the police or child and family services then youre going to have a crazy neighbour who is going to have it out for you. The last thing you want to do is start a battle with your next door neighbour. That will never end well. Id rather have a huge fence a neighbour I never talk to rather than a crazy neighbour who has it out for me.

Youve got to stand your ground but balance that with having a crazy neighbour. If both families live there for the next 10 years the families and kids will have to somehow co-exist.

i agree with urban1.....build a bigger fence, instead of having crazies out to get you next door.

so it's not acceptable to beat or otherwise abuse other people's children? Damn, next thing you know it will be illegal to beat your neighbour's wife...

As pointed out, the number one thing is to keep your child from being exposed to this situation. So, no more unsupervised play in the yard. Talk to your other neighbours that have children and warn them about this child. You owe it to them. Lastly, and I hate to say it, but maybe you should consider moving.
