Am I missing something with Blackwood. The last time he had a GAA under 3 was in 2019/2020.

Prime Dominik Hasek couldn't help out the Sharks and Devils from a few years ago. There's a reason both teams were perennial bottom feeders and were constant lottery players.

Colorado has the best forward and best defenceman in the league with a strong supporting cast. They need a goalie right now and I'm not sure Blackwood is that guy. I hope so because this Avalanche team is fun to watch. Feels a bit like when the Flames signed a new B level goalie every year before they got Markstrom.

Yes, you're missing context. All of it.
Watch him play. He's pretty good.

Yeah I’m not trashing him. I’m asking a question.
If he is as good as you’re saying those Devils teams must have been really bad.
We know San Jose is awful.

Well, in 2021-2022, the Devils used 7 goalies, and only one (Jon Bernier) had a spct over .900. 12 Devils were double-digit negatives in plus/minus, including 5 that were below -20.
In 2022-23, Blackwood was by far the worst Devils goalie, but I think his confidence was shot by then, and iirc, he had a problem taking the covid vaccine as well.

He has perfected having a bad team. So in that regard he is good in some eyes.

He's been good at tearing down, but tearing down is the easy part (although not always easy). It's the building back up that screws up a lot of teams. Sometimes I think it would be fun to come in, trade everyone for picks and prospects, and then resign and walk away.

I was not happy when the Devils moved on from him. He did have injury troubles which was a factor in the decision.

I think both teams did well here, but it is also a bit early to judge. Some goalies look better with more or less shots on them, more or less pressure to win, etc. I think the Avs have 2 shots at having something to work out after these two trades rather than zero, but we don't know if they answered their huge hole yet. I think it is a good gamble for them to take however.

Part of what you're missing is that with scoring up all over the league, a GAA of 3 is now average. Blackwood has been getting close to average results playing behind dreadful teams. He definitely wasn't the problem in San Jose.
