Having a really big collection of fairweather derps with bad taste is a flex?

I take it as a compliment to the faithful solidarity of the fanbase of the Flames who don't have the same population to pluck from. And also have to contend with large contingents of expat fans within it's own population due to people from No Good places moving to Calgary in recent years because it's better.

When the Flames become good again while having the newest arena in the league it's going to be a special and fun privilege for every one in this small but passionate fanbase to enjoy.

Vancouver traded Gustav Forsling straight up for Adam Clendening.

Vancouver and the lower mainland are made up of vast numbers of migrants like myself (over 30% in the Province so likely closer to 45% in the lower mainland), either from the rest of Canada who have a home team back east (even if East is Alberta) or are from outside Canada and have grown up either themselves or with parents who aren't hockey fans, I suspect this creates fans like myself, I like hockey (although I see it basically as 5 a side soccer on meth) but can go weeks without watching a game, I am not a fan of any team, I will root for pretty much any Canadian team in a game except the Greasers and the Maple Laughs, on top of that most of the hockey season we are still wearing shorts and t shirts, I am as likely to listen to a game on my bluetooth will riding my bike as watch on TV

So? Florida got him off waivers for nothing.

Not surprising for Flames fans, but it feels like it's surprising to some in Canuckland. Z will continue to say all the right things, but won't sign for a penny less than he wants...

I like Z but he thinks he's a 1/2 Dman when he's really a 3-5 guy most nights that plays like a 1/2 guy some nights.
A difficult guy to evaluate a price on so I think that's why he moves around a lot.
Can you pay him like he's a top 3 dman on your team? I'm not sure

He's a tough guy to figure out salary wise, not worth 5-6MM during the regular season but earns it in the playoffs. Do you pay hoping you make playoffs where he is valuable?

Z is a defence version of Bennett. Scores some nice goals, makes some good physical plays, takes some bad penalties at bad times and makes some big mistakes sometimes. All magnified come playoff time.

I think he's an elite 5.

That's sort of an oxy moron, but it's true. He impacts the game in a lot of ways, and can take on a bigger role for a short period of time.

But if you sign him on the assumption that he can be that 3/4 guy nightly he will show he's not a top four defenseman.

Would love to have the guy on a 5 year $3.75 deal.

It is always baffling to me when a good player is up for a contract and everyone ####s on them because they're not top 10 in the world. Zadorov will be a fine player for 5 years and with the raising cap 5.5M is fair for what he brings.

Absolutely no one #### on him, except for Dino who does that to every former Flame and doesn't really count.

Maybe in 5 years when the cap is closer to 100MM and that number is closer to a minimum salary, but IMO you can't commit nearly 4 million to a bottom pair defender who needs to be sheltered and is only going to play 8-12 minutes a night.

Not only are you not getting great value on the contract but it leaves you with holes elsewhere in your lineup as you can't afford a more impactful player.

I'm surprised he turned that down to be honest, but he's bounced around a lot and maybe thinks he can get 6 years somewhere on the market.

You really only get one chance at the UFA market, and if you can hit it while your stock is high like Zadorov, you should field all offers possible. He's not a dumb dude and really only played for Van for a few months.

Sums him up perfectly

Hes more noticable than most 5s, on the ice and off, via hits or rushes, so it seems like hes a top 4 d man, but even in canucks depth chart hed be the 3rd LD

I'd do 5x5 just because cap is going up, any less I'd want less term

Zadorov is a smart lad. He's got a keen mind and he knows he's got a flashy play style and while that doesn't necessarily translate into good results, it does get noticed and make a player a fan favourite.

We have seen guys like this. Guys like Ristolainen, Gudas, Nurse, or even closer to home Myers, get paid. So has Zadorov. And he knows come July 1st, there is a non-zero chance a team offers him a deal that is for more money than it should be for a longer time than makes any sense.

Get paid big man. Ideally by not the Canucks.
