I've had to listen to some country music at work, and over the course of an afternoon... one song copied Macy Grey beat for beat. One stole the riff from a Barenaked Ladies song, one was beat for beat the Northern Pikes 'she ain't pretty'. The Beyonce song lifts from Mumford and Sons and the Lumineers. Neither are country.
On the way home I caught a pop song that was lyrically swapped Bobby McFerrin 'don't worry, be happy'.
Do people think that we won't notice? What happened to country music? I swear lyrically at least three songs were about date rape. One was a catchy tune about wasting good whiskey on a girl, because she was still sober enough to fight him off. wtf. At least it was an original song.

Why exactly didn't Charley Crockett get wider play with that song. Big time Hollywood tie in, and classic western style and sound. Excellent.
Jason Isbell sounds like the confused lovechild of Neil Young and Tom petty. In 20 years, I feel like he might grow into a crotchety old man that churns out a classic album.
Ole 60 feels like where Nu Country could have gone, if they swayed away from rehashing (or straight stealing) 90s pop rock.
Thanks for the new music! I really miss the western in country. Truth be told, I also liked the bayou steel guitar music that has mostly disappeared, too. Ready for a revival.

Just to prove how hard the Danny Carey drum part in Pneuma is (By tool), here is Mike Portnoy trying to learn it. He's the drummer for Dream Theater, and other prog rock/metal bands. He's one of the more accomplished drummers out there in terms of creativity and technique, and he's on an absolute journey trying to learn this part.

I liked this cover of Heart Shaped Box. Not the original video for it but this is where I discovered the cover and I'm a big fan of the anime featured and I'm a nerd so that's why, no you shut up.
