I'm listening on the radio because I don't have a stream and the hosts are just #### talking the Caps. They are super butt hurt.

I think they redraw the bracket after this game? So wouldn't necessarily be Toronto.

Yes the redraw is May 29. I'll need to get double the luck.

Cmon Tommy make a change. Your midfield is completely gassed and overrun

They left everything out there, big win! Unfortunately not enough in the end. Would’ve liked to see them push Aird up the field and pump some balls into the box at the end

I thought that Daley chance was it. Need the ball to fall to someone else in the box!

Hope this result can spur them onto bigger things in the league! Up the Cavs!

I think that was the best game I've ever seen them play. Hard to be too disappointed. This edition of the Whitecaps was far better than the one we last beat at BC Place.

I love when the Whitecaps coach was asked about preparing for Messi on the weekend:

"For us, today, Camargo is Messi"

Oh man I totally forgot about the game tonight.

If only they followed the rule switch as champions league where the away goal doesn’t matter and could have pushed it to extra time.

We cheered the boys hard. We won, despite the non-advancement. I’m so happy, I let the boys know on the field after the game; we’re celebrating in Yaletown now. I’m so drunk. I love this game

"Good for the league" is what I'm telling myself. But anyone but Forge would've been preferred.

I’d wager the MLS teams are being dicks about CPL because it is the D1 league in a country they have three clubs in.

USL is handcuffed from ever really competing with MLS because of its USSF Div 2 status, and Concacaf is never going to allow two D1 leagues. An upset win by Sacramento doesn’t bother MLS because it’s not direct competition, and if anything, if the market gets strong enough, they’ll accept an application. That’s not an option for the Canadian markets so long as CPL exists and thrives.

Cavalry, Ottawa, and Forge in particular have the ownership, market size, and quality management to potentially compete with the bottom end of MLS long term (after all, all three markets have reportedly looked into MLS franchises in the past). The more successful those teams are, the more likely the risk is that Concacaf takes a long look at the Whitecaps and CF Montreal’s exemptions… even if that is at least a decade away and a lot needs to go right.

Also, didn’t MLS at this stage still have football lines in some stadia and gimmicky centre field penalty shootouts?

MLS actually folded 6 years in and Noonan wrote the press release announcing it. It was saved at the last minute when two owners bailed the league out. Without that bailout there would be no TFC and who knows what the fate of the Whitecaps or Impact would have been.

Noonan is just doing what a commissioner does and is defending his league in the public eye. We love our oligopolies in Canada and professional soccer is no different. As with any business in this country the little guys have to fight and scratch and claw for relevance, or risk having the big 3 clubs stamp them out.

MLS clubs continue to not take this competition seriously until the final stages and they keep getting burned.

I was getting pretty annoyed at Reddit and comments around "these wins don't say anything because the MLS teams are fielding essentially youth squads". Well yeah, if they choose to totally mismanage the tournament, they can go right ahead. It still doesn't change the fact they are getting beat on the regular.

And from a MLS team perspective it makes zero sense to not go all out in this tournament.

It’s your best chance to win something. Your best chance to qualify for CCC. Sure you might have to rotate in MLS then, but none of these teams are at the top of the league and are competing for the shield. Get some knockout experience in the Can Championship and set yourself up to try and make a playoff run.

Messi, Suarez and Busquets are skipping the Whitecaps match Saturday. Thought this part of the statement from Vancouver was pretty ironic given what we saw on Tuesday.

Quote:
“We always want our best players going up against our opponent's best players, and facing players of the highest pedigree was especially exciting for our team. We know that there will also be a lot of disappointed fans. We remain committed to making this a special experience for everyone. It is still going to be an incredible atmosphere and celebration of soccer for our city. We have amazing fans, we have a good team, and Saturday's match is a very important home game for us."
