There is smoking in the casinos. There are drunks everywhere. You aren't taking them to any of the really cool stuff you've listed above. Even in the casinos you have to stay on the main walkways and not stop if you're under 21.
If you want to go to the pool, you can... but it's $75 to reserve a cabana. It's not like going to the wave pool.
It's sort of like - "Should I take my toddlers on a 10 day backcountry hike?" You could do it... but you probably should wait till they are at least a little older.
|
Oh you're right. I dont disagree with any of that. I took my daughter to Vegas on her 16th birthday, we could do the cool stuff and if nobody cared she could have a drink or two (from CVS not the Casinos...they are VERY strict) as we wandered around.
But Toddlers? Theres gotta be a better place to go than Vegas.
However! It is my understanding that most Vegas Casinos and Hotels have a Nanny-service? I've never used it personally, but dumping your kids on the Casino staff and then doing whatever you want all day might be an option?

Yeah if you think Vegas is only drunks and gambling then yeah you'd think that.
I agree Vegas hasn't been a place for kids but I don't see why it can't be. Where else can you go for $550 a person for 5 days flights and hotels included?
I've even seen it for $350 a person for 5 days.
If the plans are walking around, checking out scenery and eating good food then why not?

Can you take them to a beach like Mexico instead? I'm sure they'd have way more fun just running around on the beach and playing with sand, and it'd be a lot less stress on your part than taking them to Vegas. But that's just what I'd prefer to do. Taking a toddler to Vegas does not sound like fun at all. At that point, I'd rather just stay home and do a staycation.

Mexico prices are insane right now and I like Mexico when it's cold here.

Why not San Diego or somewhere in California? Or Seattle?
I have a toddler and baby and yeah I can't imagine taking them to Vegas. Not worth it at all.

If the plans are walking around, checking out scenery, and eating good food then go somewhere that’s for doing that. Vegas is for gambling and adult stuff mostly eh? But you sound like you’ve made your choice and wanted reassurance instead of a thread full of people telling you it’s a dumb idea. Good luck!

Flights - check
Hotels - check
Pools - check
Weather - check
Restaurants - check
Easy to get around - check
East to get to airport - check
Some occasional things you could do to entertain kids - check
Oxygen pumped into hotel rooms to keep your kids awake 24hrs a day - check
The lights alone could probably keep a toddler amused for the entirety of the trip.

No it really isn't. I've been to vegas a dozen times and it's not just for gambling and adult stuff. It can be whatever you want it to be.
I made the thread for feedback not just "dumb idea"
Vegas has a reputation for gambling and that's what they want you to think it is only for. Vegas is beautiful and worth visiting with kids if you want a cheap getaway for a few days to a week.
Truth is gamblers subsidize my trips because I don't gamble in Vegas. They pretty much giving you the hotel for free as you can barely get a flight to Vegas for what they offer you a flight and hotel for.
Maybe I should write an article and publish it in the Calgary Sun
"The Vegas Hotels don't want you to know this trick...."

In fairness to Res you clearly ask for people's opinions
"What does everyone think of taking kids to stay on the Vegas strip? Trashy?.....Thoughts?"
I would suggest he is doing exactly what you requested in the OP.

Not rooting one way or another, I think it’s a dumb idea. If you have toddlers there’s a bevy of locales that are far more family and kid friendly to vacation in. As I said before if you’re that jazzed to go to Vegas leave the kids at home. If you truly believe that the strip in the middle of a desert is lovely family fun adventure then give ‘er I guess but it doesn’t sound like you’re doing it for the kids so may as well be honest with your intentions. They’re a hindrance for the trip not the purpose.
Pfft drive to drumheller and whip around there for a while. Kids like dinosaurs at least.

I'm just shocked at calling Vegas a cheap place to vacation. Like, ok, flights are cheap and hotels can get deals on.... but if you literally do anything else it's so damn expensive. Is the plan to sit in the hotel and do nothing? I can see it being cheap then.
"Eating good food" Oh man, $$$

Scenery in Vegas? Why don't you take them to Zion? stay outside Zion and you can go to grand canyon, bryce, canyon, sand dunes, and numerous slot canyons all within a couple hour drive. Probably be a better experience for your kids than forcing a square peg into a round hole in Vegas.

Or anywhere, for that matter. Go when they're older and will have a memory of it.
Is there a reason to travel with toddlers, other than 'I want to go, and we have nobody to watch the kids'

‘Cause travelling doesn’t really need to pause until they’re older. We took our son to a 3 day outdoor music festival in the countryside of Wales when he was two, and we’ve gone to lots of other countries/cities. He’s been to countless music festivals, symphonies, museums, art galleries, etc. It’s good for their development. Only this spring did we decide to give in and go to something child focused in LegoLand.
