4 calgary murders linked to American serial killer
Surprised no thread on this as this is pretty big news.

Good work for the family of the victims even if he is dead.

So...the women were murdered in the 70s...the killer died in Jail in 2011.
And...they're telling us this now?
I dont really think this is a huge 'slam dunk win' for Law Enforcement.

I suspect they the sharing of information between US and Canadian law enforcement is probably why this took so long.
We should be sharing DNA samples for all serious crimes, if we’re not already.

I'd imagine this is bitter sweet. Great to have closure and find the killer. I'd be pretty disappointed that the guy remained free for so much time and kept victimizing more women until then.

Calgary police has been doing good work going back through cold cases.
My ex-wife was close friends with Adrienne McCool.
Everyone knew that her boyfriend did it. But they couldn't prove it. Until technology advanced. And then they went and got the MFer.

The closure it offers families cannot be under-stated. It allowed everyone in her life to move on finally.

Whoa. This brought back memories. My dad was in the hardwood flooring business and dealt with the guy back around 2000 or 2001. We were shocked when heard about what had happened.

Just think of the changes in not only technology but the type of evidence.
It wasn't that long ago that blood typing was considered a major piece of evidence, and finger prints were the end all and be all.
Now all it takes is a few skin flakes or hair, or blood and you're pretty much nailed.

Reminds me of the John Mulaney bit about detectives back in the day.
"Detective, looks like the suspect got cut and left a puddle of blood in the hallway"
"Hm, gross.
Now... back to my hunch"

Yeah the genetic genealogy has been a game changer in helping to close these cold cases. I know it took them 3 years, but using it were able to exclude the 300 other suspects and narrow it down to the person.
