Has anyone said Weimer? Surely someone has said Weimer.

Wiemer is reaponsible for our cup loss.
We traded Sandy MacCarthy and a third round pick to Tampa for him
That third round pick turned into Brad Richards.

lots of "worthy" names here - Eloranta, Eriksson, Neal - but never, EVER forget just how awful Gary Leeman was!

Not the worst statically but I have never nor will I ever hate a player as much as I hated Mike Smith. Garbage player and his tenure with the team is an embarrassment for the franchise.

Nick Fotiu. hahahaha.
If he was a player today he couldn't even be an equipment manager.

This is a good one. Because he was infuriating. Like Eriksson not being able to hold the blueline Smitty could have a puck shot straight at him and somehow it still goes in.

Didn't they play "Call on me" as his goal song? that's all I can remember besides him being terrible.
Also anyone remembers Ivanas? The huge tough guy that got knocked out on his first or second game with us, and didn't play again.

I don't know much about the Flames pre'04, but I'd have to agree with several people on here. James Neal was the worst I ever saw. The lack of effort was incredible - not sure he broke a sweat the entire season. Just the slowest, most useless player ever. And the audacity to argue that you should get more playing time - unbelievable.

This is totally unfair because:
(a) he never played one minute for the Flames; and
(b) none of this is his fault.
However, I vote Ruslan Zainullan. The Flames traded an ascendant Marc Savard for him. Marc Savard went on to become one of the best playmaking centres of his generation. The Flames would spend the rest of Jarome Iginla's career looking for (and failing to obtain) a playmaking centre for him. I remain convinced that this trade cost the Flames and Iginla at least one Stanley Cup (and maybe more).
To rub salt in the wound, the Flames traded Savard because he wasn't getting along with his coach, the legendary Greg Gilbert. The Flames went 1-7 immediately following the trade. So, of course, eight games after the trade, the Flames fired Gilbert.
FML as a Flames fan.

Based on expectations, game impact, office impact and contract status.
Neal and Huberdeu.
Neal was a worse and more toxic player but his contract was alot more manageable and we were able to get rid of him after ine season.
Huberdeau is slow, perimeter pass first winger.
Brings almost nothing to the game exempt a warm body if his offense isn't going. No physicality. No speed. No goal scoring aptitude.
Biggest poont drop off in NHL history. And to wrap it up, the biggest and worst contract in flames history.

The question was worst player not worst contract
Huberdeau isn't even in the top 1000

I know he’s not a player but just the way he’s been gobbling so much cOiler knob lately (never mind his own deserved transgressions) , my vote is for Craig Button.

No love/hate for Petr Buzek? I was at a game against Dallas and Mike Modano picks up the puck at his blueline with Buzek a zone ahead of him. Modano starts skating through center ice and Buzek looked like a deer in headlights. I said to my wife, "Modano's going to go right around him". A moment later Modano turns on the jets and walks around Buzek so easily he couldn't even reach him with his stick. Now, Modano was a hell of a player and a great skater but he made Buzek look like he was standing still. Every time he was on the ice, which was too much, he was a liability.

I actually don't understand the hate for Kotalik.
I mean, bad trade is bad, but that's life sometimes. I can't hate a player because the trade was bad. I think Brent Sutter was a bit of a moron in a way. There were only a few things about Kotalik that I knew when Calgary acquired him:
1) Played the point on the PP sometimes because of his howitzer of a shot
2) Shoot-out specialist
3) Kotalik song
I remember thinking: "Why is he being so misused?". He was NOT a great player, don't get me wrong. However, for the first half of the season, no time on the PP, and I don't think he was tried in the shootout much at all, at least not until towards the end of the season. I just assumed that because he sucked, Brent Sutter simply didn't want to give Kotalik the reward of PP time and being a guy on the shootout rotation. However, during the Flames skill's competition, they interviewed Brent and he said something like: "Boy, Kotalik can really shoot it. I will have to maybe try him out on the PP."
I thought he was joking and just being sarcastic. Not many games later, there was Kotalik on the PP.
Yes, Kotalik sucked, but I also say that he was elite at a small number of things, and because the current coach never bothered to even figure out what his damn strengths were, he was complete and utter garbage that didn't move the needle at all. He could have at least moved the needle SLIGHTLY. A coach is supposed to know what the strengths and weaknesses of the players he has, and put it all together as best as possible to win games. To not know about what Kotalik was actually good at, while I (who wasn't the coach) did, is just really zany to me.
