I mean I thought the 50kph electric scooters were too much. At least there you have handlebars and can steer and brake. That type of speed on an electric skateboard is bonkers.

For sure a fall like that is potentially disastrous on a skateboard. To reiterate, I have no intention of going top speed on it in the same way I have never gone top speed (and never will) in my car. It's not even tempting. I've crashed on a skateboard a ton in my life, but I'm 47 now and don't feel like laying in a hospital bed because of a skateboard wipeout.

My ebike will do 55 downhill (45ish on flats) and it isn't terrifying at all. I'm talking on roads, though, not on skinny trials or anything.

I think that this is the right approach. I did however "open up" my motorcycle one time in Montana. I just wanted to feel what it felt like to go ridiculously fast, and it was wide open and no other cars around. Honestly...it was pretty sweet! I mean on one hand you know that if you hit a bump or something it could well be game over, but it's also so hard to really grasp that. I do think that the skateboard would be much scarier though, because you just have nothing to hold and the margins are so thin.

I don't think I have ever been more terrified than when I was going 70kph on my road bike on 20c tires when my jacket started flapping and then got the speed wobbles. In the rain.

Oh yeah, not implying you will ... but someone will. When I was a dumb teenager I wanted to top speed my old ass cheap rigid mountain bike on a dirt road. As I hit 70km/h, I couldn't see anything because I wasn't wearing glasses and my eyes teared right up, and then realized I should have confirmed my quick release was done up properly as I had just taken it out of a car.

Teenagers are dumb.

Very similar tastes.

The analog connection of the wookie seems like VW’s 993. Albeit its overly front heavy, a workout in the twists, and quite underpowered, mine was turbocharged.

Is it blasphemous that’d I’d want a nice 2.0/1.8BT, in that bay? Move battery to back, delete P/S & A/C, add LSD & HPA Haldex controller.

Man I miss ‘er

We had a MK4 (just a base Golf, nothing fancy) in the family back in the day. It was simultaneously the most awesome car and the biggest turd. The ownership experience was basically like owning an off-warranty BMW, just straight from the factory.

I was able to import my "attainable" dream car. 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX Wagon.

I installed Fortune Auto coilovers, and Rays the first day I had it in my possession. I will install Whiteline swaybars soon. Handles amazingly!

It's a GT-A, which means it's an automatic, which I require for reasons.

I have been a Mitsubishi fan for a couple of decades and the CT9W has been the elusive gem I have been waiting 17 years for.

There's a learning curve in getting familiar with the RHD situation, and I always hit the wipers when I want to signal... I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Awesome whip GWE... so jelly How did you find the import process? Was it easier or more complicated than you thought?

Sean at Zen Auto was outstanding, the only issue arose when all the RORO (roll-on, roll-off) options became unavailable, and we had to get a sea container. It took 6.5 months from the day I won the car at the auction, to arrive in Calgary. Sep 28, 2024 - Apr 20, 2024

I didn't even know an automatic was available for the EVO's outside of the DCT in the EVO X.

The SST is in the same generation Lancer RalliArt, as well.

Evo VII GT-A and the Evo IX Wagon GT-A are the only iterations, I am aware of. The benefit of the Evo IX GT-A is that they had issues with the transmissions in the VII GT-A and all but are sorted in the IX.

The GT-A turbo is smaller than the GT or MR manuals, making it more responsive with less lag, but it's still relatively slow off the line.

After I get the suspension and handling sorted, I will get a TCM reflash, to change the transmission characteristics dramatically. We'll see if the slushbox can be improved.

Has anyone bought a vehicle on Bring A Trailer before? How did things go and how was the process? I'm interested in a vehicle and it is listed no reserve by a dealer. It is also in Canada which should make things a lot easier.

BAT is essentially an advertising service with a bidding component to achieve the final price... You see the car listed, bid, win, they ding your CC and send you and email connecting you with the seller and that's the last you'll hear from them.

As long as you treat it like a normal purchase and do not expect any additional support in the process, you will be fine... That means proper due diligence, both on the car and the seller. Buying from a Canadian dealer should also confer whatever coverages provided by their provincial association (though, ha-ha).

No experience, but looking forward to hearing about the vehicle if you win!

It is nothing exciting or special.

Looking at this as a road-tripper/highway cruiser:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...-10-passenger/

My parents had a previous gen to this when I was growing up and it was a seat van to cruise around in for camping trips. Their van was a bit higher end/conversion with big, plush captains chairs and the rear had a long bench on each side where one side would fold flat to make a big bed.

I want to get a newer conversion on the most recent GM platform with a modern powertrain and AWD but I don't have $80k + to spend on that right now. This would hold me over until I can get a proper luxury full size van.

We just helped a client buy a Boxster with a 911 Engine conversion off BAT last month and have bought 5 or 6 off of Cars and Bids.

All have gone relatively smoothly. Seller being in Canada certainly makes things easier as you don't need to deal with the border.

I will say and it's likely just coincidence but all of the sellers on C&B have been great and very helpful. The BAT seller has been a pain in the ass right from the word go.

Due diligence of course is the biggest part.

Too bad you didn't win the van, it was a sweet one. It went for more than I thought it would, but that's BAT for you.

Yeah, $19k USD seems like a pretty absurd amount for that van. Yes it was clean and low mileage but it wasn't a conversion or anything special.
