Dan Carlin came out with a new HH History Addendum, it's a 2 hour talk about the holocaust followed by an interview with an author/professor of holocaust history.

It's really disturbing, and hard to listen to with some of the first hand accounts describing fine details of what some of the shooting/concentration camps were like to experience. I thought watching the Ken Burns documentary would have desensitized me a bit.

Either way, it's still interesting and I think important to remind future generations of what can happen when extremism is allowed to flourish.

Future generations? There's an insane amount of extremist anti-semitism happening, RIGHT NOW.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills trying to understand the revisionist history claiming Israel is committing genocide. Like seriously? Israel was created BECAUSE of genocide, and the latest attacks from Hamas were in the spirit of killing every Jew (it's in their charter), you know...the literal definition of genocide. The #### I hear coming out of the mouths of people these days about Jews and Israel is mind boggling. History seems destined to repeat itself at this rate.

Yeah, it was just an interesting podcast recommendation. Just saying it's worth a listen if you're interested but it's not an easy topic.

Blank Check is my favourite film podcast, and their Patreon is the only thing I've ever subscribed to. They cover director's filmographies film by film. Start with a director you like. The older episodes have a bunch of convoluted so don't be confused if you don't understand it at first.

Any Blankies on here? Blank it, thank it.

Doughboys is a fun podcast about chain restaurants hosted by people who feel like grown up versions of the Superbad characters.

Hit Parade is a fascinating podcast about pop music history by looking at the music charts and certain records.

I used to listen to Doughboys years ago, I kind of forgot about them. It is funny.

I have friends who lived in San Luis Obispo and highly recommended Your Own Backyard for true crime. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I used to love video game podcasts but now I only listen to Get Played because I prefer to have my shows with a heaping of comedy.

I guarantee you they haven't changed a bit.

It would be super rad if they did a live show here and covered Peter's or Tim Horton's. They went to Saskatoon so anything is possible...

A few new ones I've tried out recently.

Energy vs Climate. Calgary podcast, I like knowing a little bit more about climate policy...

Acquired. Mostly about tech VC investors, and the sale of tech companies from a business lens. I've found the few episodes I listened to interesting.

Behind the Bastards This would probably be my lowest recommend of the 3. Basically bashing historic figures for being bad people. It's a little too long, and a little less nuanced than I would like, but entertaining and moderately informative.

I listen to this occasionally. It’s very much aimed at progressive listeners.

Here’s a direct quote from last week’s episode with John Hodgman, “It’s a food podcast where they mostly talk about come”.

I would love to see them live as well, especially if they do a Let Me Be Frank segment.

Yes I listened to that episode too and Hodgman had them dead to rights.

That's pretty much what I meant by lacking nuance. The host carrying that tone of "Everyone else is terrible because they in the moment didn't meet my exact retrospective view of morality from a modern prospective".

They also have the habit of leaning into the Killmonger / 2024 Isreali prospective a little bit. "oppression and genocide are bad
Spoiler!

Just recently watched Dicktown and got on a Hodgman podcast kick, got back into Judge John Hodgman. He also released a podcast called Be Podding You where him and Elliott Kalan discuss the first and last 2 episodes of The Prisoner.

The John Hodgman episode of Doughboys was hilarious, he just obliterates Mitch and Wiger like no one else.

Piss Pigs, Threedom is back Feb 29th!

If you haven’t tried Everything Everywhere Daily, give it a shot. Gary covers interesting topics. It’s well written and concise - generally under 15 minutes. It’s my favourite.

Anyone listening to the CBC/BBC podcast on Bre-X? Liars and scam artists are just fascinating, with the Calgary connection it's a must listen for me.

By the way, we also have a Mathew McConaughey movie on the story:

I can't second this enough. Short, yet I formative and entertaining. It's a great podcast
