His family saw it that way. But I suppose its their opinion vs that of the Flames. I get that.
Really, I'm not about rehashing the past so much as suggesting that moving forward as they embark on this rebuild, they need to take care of their home grown talent. Don't go free agent shopping at the expense of ensuring your home grown stars are looked after.

Depends how you want to define a power forward. He certainly goes to the tough areas all the time and gives and takes a beating. I'd probably say he is more a highly skilled agitator. Like Bennett to me is a skilled enforcer but both of these types (agitator/enforcer) generally play way down the lineup unlike Tkachuk and Benny. They are both very unique players.

Yeah it's a benefit of hindsight.
Coming out of 19-20 and 20-21 seasons very few people on here wanted to give Gaudreau more than $8M. More people wanted to trade him than re-sign him.
Easy to say now it was low balling, but really the market was a bit soft for wingers at the time. Even if you include the 18-19 season which was his career year he had 206 points over his prior 208 games...so averaging 81 points per season.
If the Flames were offering $8M per season on an extension that was probably pretty close to being fair value in the 2021 offseason. Gabriel Landeskog took $7M that offseason to help his team win.
Gaudreau bet on himself, was able to cash in, choose to take the contract in Columbus.

I mean Gaudreau had a monster 115 point season and had to go crawling to Columbus to even get 9.7. 8 or whatever was hardly a lowball. I bet if he was a UFA this summer he couldn't get 8.

idk why lots of people blame the franchise for losing Tkachuk? like we offered him a contract extension after 2022 I assume.
so what we offered him a bridge deal earlier? what does that change in terms of him not wanting to sign with us or not. we had the money, term and offered him probably everything he wanted to stay. he just didnt want to be here.
if we kept him, im sure we couldve found an All Star caliber player to play along side him like Fiala, Meier, etc.

Oh thank God! Another round of how we mishandled Tkachuk and what we should have done differently! It's been like 2 weeks since the last round - I was starting to forget some of the details.

I wouldn't go on his boat... because of the implication.

I mean, Cali never would... it's just that he could. It's really all about the implication, you see.
