Next up, on What Timeline is This? ... Harrison Ford kept Sakic in Denver

‘Saving Sakic’ now available, tells story of how Harrison Ford helped keep center in Denver
The next 45 minutes of "Saving Sakic," an original hockey documentary from NHL Productions, dives into the story of how the former Avalanche captain and current executive almost left the team in 1997 to go to the New York Rangers, and how a confluence of events over the course of one week in August of 1997, including help from Harrison Ford, stopped it from happening.
Let me get this straight. Apparently Ascent Entertainment, which owned the Avs, did not have the cash in hand to match the offer sheet. But, per The Score:
Quote:
Beacon Pictures was a sibling company in Ascent's portfolio and one of the producers of "Air Force One." Drawing on business lessons he learned creating the film with Ford, Lyons negotiated a deal that kept Sakic in Denver while also getting a new arena built.
So Harrison Ford apparently had nothing to do with it. Beacon negotiated a deal to raise money to make a movie that just happened to have Harrison Ford in it, and Ascent borrowed the technique to negotiate a similar deal so the Avs could raise cash so they could match the offer for Sakic.

Yeah, when I've heard the story before it was the success of Air Force One that gave the Avs owners enough money to match the offer sheet. So Harrison Ford is only involved in so far as he made a successful movie at the right time.

This is the gist of it. The Saving Sakic doc is a good watch, quick at only about 45 mins. There's more to the story a bit just in regards to timing of the movies release, dates changing etc but the above is correct.
