Has there been something stated that he wants out of Calgary?

In an Athletic article today, Brodeur said there are only three or four NHL starters today who can be counted to be a true #1 and carry the load, and Markstrom is one of them.

Yup, the extent to which Brodeur loves Markstrom is a huge factor here. I have no idea how that org functions, but I would think his sway is only increasing.

You will have to take my word on it. He isn't happy with the season, the direction of the team, but mostly the way he has been deployed on the 3rd line. He is looking for a change of scenery. I am not sure if anybody else in the media has gotten the same info.

Yes, so did Washington with Samsonov when they had Holtby. How did that work out? Saros is still pretty young and a franchise goalie, you don't trade those guys away unless the Preds feel they are going to fall off a cliff or someone ridiculously overpays.

He's playing on a line with Blake Coleman who currently has 51 points (tied for second on the team). I don't think he has much cause to complain about his usage.

Not to mention Vanecek, who was also looking like a stud early on.

Yeah, I don't consider that a third line.

Where does he expect to play? Top line minutes ? He’s not a top line player. He has poor finish and goes missing for long stretches. I’d love to get rid of Mangiapane. Thankfully Treliving didn’t handicap us with that contract.

... he plays on the line with the team's Captain and it's leading goal scorer (and they frequently faceoff against the top lines of the opponents). WTF does he have to complain about?

I am just passing along what I have heard. Maybe he thinks he is a top 6 guy? Maybe he thinks the team won't win anytime soon? Maybe he just wants out of Calgary, I don't know.

Yeah, if he wants to gripe about the direction of the team that's fine (I understand it)... heck if he wanted to complain about not getting more opportunities on the PP I'd get that (I wouldn't agree but I'd get it).
I'm just not comprehending how he could complain about being on the "3rd line". The line he's on is the Captains line, it has the leading scorer, it's given the most responsibility of any of our lines, and has been the most stable line all year. He should be proud to be on that line not resentful of it.

Hopefully Mangipane has a bounce back and can bring back a decent asset or two at the deadline.

The Steinberg's and the Pinders and Boomers have all had their little snippets of openly pondering that Mang wants a fresh start.

That's weird news to me, as Mangiapane has been fairly vocal in the past about really enjoying playing alongside Backlund and Coleman.

If Mangiapane has complaints about his ice time, it’s probably PP time. He’s 10th on the roster in PP time, and probably wants more.

My interpretation of 'deployment on the 3rd line' was: 'mad that he isn't getting more PP time'

Nothing wrong with a change of scenery for various reasons.
Just be open and flexible to options, and work pragmatically and professionally with the GM on getting you moved out.
Not hard.

Interesting. Mang has been terrible when not playing with Backlund on the "3rd" line. We don't see his straight to the net style of play like he had before he signed that contract.
