I thought about getting one just to protect the plate from peeling, so I wonder how many of the ones you're seeing are actually to mess with photo radar

I assumed they were all to avoid photo radar. If they’re to help protect the plate that explains why struggler have them. I’d rather get a new plate if it starts peeling. It’s free if you get it when you renew.

I run the black Support Our Troops plates, they're definitely not free. Wouldn't want a 7 digit noob plate anyway

They are, but they work better to keep the license plate looking more spiffy than preventing photo radars I think.
In the past, maybe they worked when the photo radar only took a single picture at a point in time. But now, I think a video is taken and they take the clearest pic. Unless you have one of those crazy ones that completely obscures and obfuscates the license plate even normally (and probably would get a ticket for that on a normal day) I don't think they actually work that well.
I'd still rather have one than not have one though.

7 digit plates on Calgary born and raised simply shows we are willing to progress with the city and are incredibly forward thinking and open to change.

Well then they shouldnt have cheaped out on the paint! I took my daughter's car to the car wash and the red on the plate just came off like it was dirt.

Yes. I consider all new plates to be newbs to be avoided at all costs.

Phone numbers are recycled, so anyone can end up with 403 regardless of when sign up.
Plates though seem to be a one time thing.

Never understood this. At the very least there should be an option of getting your current plate reprinted if it's damaged

My friggin parents man. Place they’re renting is going up for sale, they’re currently paying about half of ‘market’ rate. They had to know it was coming. Could they spend the last several years financially preparing for the reality of being ever older, ever more frail and at the mercy of ever increasing rental markets? Nope. Had to get a brand new pickup truck and a new car and new furniture and blah blah blah.
Now for my dads 60th birthday, it’s looking more like I’ll be helping them and my chronically in need of their support sister into some ####ing suite or apartment that they’ll inevitably get kicked out of because they’re the loudest ####ing people on earth. Don’t know how they’re going to handle that.
