Default Embedded videos causing Chrome to crash

This is happening on Android only. Other browsers don't seem to have a problem.

When I click on a thread that has a lot (more than a couple at least) of embedded videos on it Chrome will stop responding. If I don't shut it down quickly other processes can stop responding, like OneUI on Samsung and the Google Launcher on Pixel.

No other sites seem to cause this. It's been happening for over a year but I avoided it by using Firefox. I thought it might be isolated to my Samsung phone since no one else seemed to complain, but I just got a new Pixel phone that does it so I thought I better share what's going on.

Same here. I bought a new Android tablet and took it on vacation a few weeks ago and any time I tried opening a thread with embedded videos, Chrome would crash.

I would assume it's due to the number of iframe components in the page, each video is in an iframe. Maybe that many iframes with whatever each loads just runs a mobile Chrome out of resources?

But that's how YouTube says to embed them.

If you have an example of a site with lots of YouTube videos that doesn't have a problem let me know and maybe I can look at how they embed them, maybe they do it differently.

EDIT: Seeing some mention of how to do it with modern browsers, I'll see if I can give it a try.

Thanks! Huh the first one uses iframes too, but the page loads fast. I'll have to look at the detail of what they do.

It looks like they're using loading="lazy" on the iframe, so it will only load the video if it's on screen (or close to being on screen when you're scrolling the page).

Yeah I saw that too, I've added it to the BBCode and it looks to be retroactive. I went to a page in the what are you listening to thread and it did seem to load quicker for me and videos seemed to load as I scrolled down the page.

Let me know if that makes a difference for you guys.
