Default Hotel/Motel Wash cloths

Perhaps somebody is in the hotel industry and can tell me about their policies.

A couple of weeks ago we (the IT department) received training in our own office. The company sent the trainer to Lethbridge and she stayed at a motel here. It was a 5 day course running Monday through Friday. On Thursday when she got back to her room after a day of training she saw a notice on the bed. The notice read something to this effect:

"It has been brought to our attention that you are using the wash cloths to wash makeup off of your face. Please stop."

From what I could tell she didn't even use a lot of makeup, so wdf? Isn't it normal practice for women to wash makeup from their faces with wash cloths? My wife does, and so do the wives of the other IT guys. What does the hotel expect her to do? Has anybody had this experience before, or heard of anybody being told not to clean their faces with a wash cloth?

Do you mean wash cloths? As in those small little square sized towels?

I hate to be the grammar police, but adding that "e" changes the entire meaning of the post.

And to answer your question, I've always heard of them being called face cloths, for the exact reason you mentioned. And when my mom last came into town for a visit, she asked why I didn't have any out for her; so I would say it's normal for women to wash their faces with them.

My company wasn't responsible to book the hotel. We just paid the training company the costs to have the course here in Lethbridge. My company did provide awesome lunches for the week though.

Well I don't use wash cloths on my face, but it's possible they didn't want her using them because makeup can stain them. That said, don't most motels use bleach? I don't know. That's just odd.

My wife uses wash cloths to clean off makeup. Maybe I should leave her a little note.

In my opinion, that sounds like a hotel that does not deserve to have repeat business.

I usually use the cloths to polish my shoes; those little shoe mittens are worth crap. And Ive never heard anything from hotels.

Why wouldn't there be a little sign near the face cloths saying 'please don't use to take off your make up' in the first place? Seems like a reasonable way to avoid any problems.

The hotel I'm staying at right now has the typical sign by the towels saying 'leave on the rack if you don't want these washed so to save water'....so, like a good boy, I put it on the rack...only to find when I came back for the day that they went ahead and washed the towel anyways...I should leave them a 'friendly' note...

I know my wife uses dark face cloths for that very reason. However, at a hotel it is the cost of doing business. Otherwise provide disposable makeup remover wipes.

(It can't believe I am posting this. I used to be a man, honest! Tito hand me a tissue)
