Valimaki had no value- especially at that cap hit- as many of us suspected. Shame. Should have traded him last season.

I still think we should be dangling Coronato right now. Value is at highest after a great WJC, and our window will likely be closing when he is coming into his own (~4 years).

We still have him, Zary, Pelletier, Wolf, Poirier etc. that should be NHLers at that point.

Why do we need to trade him just cause we are going for it now?

Maybe.

A cheap ELC impact maker (if he could be that by the end of this season or next) is also huge when it comes to winning a cup and being a contender.

We don't need to. But everyone seems to think we want to acquire a top 6 RW still. So how do you propose we do that without sending any value out?

We do have other prospects and picks and NHLers.

I think it would be a mistake to trade any of our top 4-5 prospects unless it was for a long-term top 6 fix.

Then you probably don’t get a top 6 RW that slots in on the first line

You need the steady influx of talent to support the big names on big deals. Can't afford to be burning much more capital. System is sparse as it is.

Nick Schmaltz could be a good option. Arizona isn't going anywhere either. He is basically the same age as Konecny, little bigger, little better point production. pretty similar cap. Plays C/RW

Podium and Table will stay up as they’ve made the opening night roster.

Coranato is probably our best forward prospect

I don't think we should be trading anymore picks and prospects. The trade for Jarnkrok was costly, and he was awful. Toffoli cost us picks as well, unless we have a significant upgrade trading a top prospect who could fill that hole along with any picks for any top 6 winger is not worth it.

I don't like the injury history though.

Talent is undeniable but the guy hasn't hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Jarnkrok was not awful. Actually would have liked to hang on to him.

Schmaltz would be amazing, but despite Arizona’s troubles, they won’t give him away for free. They would probably wait to deal him until the deadline, when they can fetch more for him. I bet he fetches a first +.

He was because he was brought in to provide offense and he didn't do that. He wasn't a defensive liability though

He already has a place in Calgary just down the street from me, easy transition

It’s not Jarnkrok’s fault we played him as a Center when he hadn’t played the position in years either.

I’d have taken him back at $2.1M in a heartbeat.

Coleman-Backlund-Jarnkrok would have been an elite third line.
