This is more of a grind my gears thing but half the Tim Horton's donuts should be outlawed!
Everytime someone brings a dozen or half dozen into the office, half of them are those inedible ones that no one wants, like the plain donuts. People eat the maple, chocolate dip, sprinkle, and boston cream. Then nobody wants the rest that are in there ever and they sit there stale and get thrown out.

I just don't like their old fashioned, and will tolerate the rest, moreso if someone else bought them. At least they finally, finally improved their honey dip so it almost resembles what they made 20 years ago.

I'm sure Photon and some others like the Honey Crullers but nobody eats them here. Everybody gets the actual dipped donuts and leaves the rest or they get begrudgingly eaten with complaints at the end of day if someone is hungry. They are just overly floury/starchy whether it's the old fashioned to the bear claw.

Proof your yeast, even if new. I've had terrible luck with new yeast the past while - multiple jars just full of dead yeast.

I love me a plain-ish donut. The only one from Tim Horton's I somewhat enjoy is the sour cream glazed, as it has a slightly savory and less sweet taste to it. The rest of their offerings are sub-par.

Pro-tip for the pro-Safeway donut crowd at least at the North Hill location. Single donuts from the cabinet are $1.49 now(!), but there's a wheeled wire rack cart (usually in front of the bakery counter) with a box of 6 assorted donuts for $3.99. They were still as tasty as the ones in the cabinet.
After the big renos the glorious cabinet-of-donuts is unfortunately only 1/2 of a single cabinet now...but 6 donuts > 4 donuts....

Was interested in trying the new donut place in Airdrie, Mavericks, and was left disappointed. All the donuts were overbaked to the point of having a way overcrisp outside layer. I wanted to try the gingerbread one and it was super heavy on the ginger like I was eating Thai food aftertaste. My boys all had a few bites of the sprinkle ones and gave them back to me, all preferring the bog standard Tim Hortons.
Overpriced too, a half dozen set me back $20.
Might try it for a single donut again in a couple weeks to see if they've figured it out but not a great first impression.
