Well that's thoroughly answered
In any case, under 2.00 GAA!

Yes, that's the way it came across for me as well. I guess he doesn't want to be the backup in a short tournament. I don't see Sweden giving him any assurances though, even if he is the best Swedish goalie by the Olympic break.
I thought his comments further cement Markstrom as the starting goalie for Sweden.

He is pretty entitled for a guy who was the second-best goalie on his own team last year, supplanted by a 36-year-old that Vegas did not even want, and who has already posted sub-.900 SPs in two two of his six starts this year.

Is he actually any good?
Last season, his 2.66 GAA put him in a 25th-place tie with Optimus Reimer. His save percentage of .904 was 38th.
Note* - All stats are for goalies with 20+ starts, according to quanthockey.
His final year in Vancouver:
2.75 GAA (27th, tied with Koskinen)
.918 save % (14th)
18/19
2.77 GAA (27th)
.912 save % (27th)
17/18
2.71 GAA (28th)
0.912 save % (31st)
16/17
2.63 GAA (29th)
.910 save % (36th)
To make matters worse, the Flames employed at least one goalie who was statistically superior each of these seasons - sometimes it was both.
Markstrom’s best attribute seems to be his durability - he can play 60 games.
Beyond that, he’s nothing special.
They should have kept Talbot.

Well this aged well Let's hope Markstrom continues to prove just how good he is.

Talbot has been the beneficiary of his team outscoring the other side in a few wins.

Yeah, apart from the wins that is not a great stat-line for Talbot.

Pretty sure 100% of teams outscore the other team when they win…

A 2.55 GAA isn't bad is it? Seems like its a good start with some low SOG victories but I could be wrong.

Don’t usually need 4-5 goals if you’re good.

2.55 would have been 18th in the league last year. But he’s kind of been inconsistent this year - a couple standout games and a couple pretty mediocre ones where his team scored 4-5 goals and he won in OT.

Uh, you’re welcome? Jeez.
Good for Jacob. Hopefully this is the beginning of a campaign that ends in some hardware.
I’m always happy to be wrong.

I hope crow is eaten here.
The dismissive conclusions being drawn on JM a mere week ago aged about as poorly as milk left in the summer sun.
Meanwhile Talbot, the one who supposedly got away, is playing pretty average in comparison.

But I also sure hope the bar for a "difference-making goaltender" is higher than "shut out a team missing its three best centers and best defenseman in one regular season game in October". Even Karri Ramo, Joni Ortio, Jonas Hiller, Mike Smith, David Rittich, Chad Johnson, and Cam Talbot had some great individual performances for us.
I actually would love it if that aged poorly, though. I'm ****ing sick of goalies crapping the bed since young Kipprusoff. Even old Kipper was pretty meh.
