My house was built in 2018. I don't see anything on the ducting that could possibly be a diverter.

Yes I did try that. The AC company blamed the size of the ducts in my home.
It is not like it was crazy hot upstairs but if it was 19 downstairs it was 22-23 upstairs.

Something died in my ac tonight. It was working fine until about 7 tonight and around 8:30 I walked past one of the vents and noticed there was no air. I thought it was a bit strange as it seemed rather warm inside. I went outside and the AC unit fan was going. I went down to the basement to check out the furnace and there is a clicking noise coming from the furnace. The fan won't turn on for the furnace. I noticed a bit of water (from condensation) at the bottom of the furnace. I've shut things off for now and I'm hoping to try it again in 30 minutes to see if anything changes. Anyone know what might be wrong? I can survive tonight and it is cooling off starting tomorrow so at least that is a plus.

So any recommendations on brands or installers? I’m out in Cochrane FWIW.
My wife has been reluctant, and I don’t really understand why. But it’s time, with 3 of us sleeping in the bottom level and only her able to tolerate the heat upstairs.

I've bought from Arpi's twice. Others have had good service from Action Furnace. Get some quotes and go with who you feel most comfortable with.
I've had Lennox in the past, my current unit is a Goodman. Didn't have any issues with either unit, knock on wood. 6 years on the Lennox and this is the 2nd year on the Goodman.

Could it be a frozen coil due to your furnace fan crapping out?

I think that maybe my evaporator coil froze up and caused some sort issue with the blower fan. At 11:30 I went down to check things out again and the blower was working again. So I left that running all night. I have a feeling that my coil is really dirty and needs a good cleaning as it might be restricting air flow. I'm just need to figure out if I can get good access to the coil.

I would suspect it is an option for most builders except perhaps in higher end homes. Builders are so cheap they won't put in anything other than the absolute minimum unless you specifically ask or it's a standard upgrade.

Anyone have the Goodman GSX 16? 2157sq feet 2 story. likely need 3.5ton AC unit.
Price on install for anyone with this unit?
|
I had a Goodman GSX 16 2.5T unit installed about a month ago for $4000. Only installed on the 2nd floor furnace, which is set to 22C. Didn't install a unit on the main/basement furnace but the main floor stays between 22 to 22.5 depending on time of day (we are east facing). Basement is always 19 it seems. Action furnace did the install.

Freeze up are usually from inadequate airflow across the evaporator coil.
Ensure you have a new cheap 1” fibreglass filter during ac season, ensure most supply and return grilles are unobstructed, have the blower on the fastest speed setting and keep your furnace’s blower on full time.

My face is a bum!

My experiment of closing the main floor vent has ended. It started to freeze up tonight. Too bad, it was way more comfortable.

No one sets their furnace to 24.5 in the winter because they're wearing clothes appropriate for the winter, so it's unnecessary.
|
24.5C in summer with T shirts and shorts works for us. AC usually kicks in around 9-10AM and shut off at 10PM in recent heatwave. Upstairs with all the bedrooms and bonus room get lots of sun with big windows so it can reach 28-30C easy by mid afternoon.
In winter, 22C is what I set the thermostat at. Everyone has different heat/cold tolerance so set the thermostat at whatever works. I would have to wear winter clothes at 19-21C setting.

Action Furnace installed mine. I wouldn't recommend them.

We used a small local shop called Bootsma. I think it's a father and son run company. They were absolutely great.

Anyone have one in their backyard? Are they really noisy when they kick on in the summer?
I think I have room to install it in the sideyard, but would be right outside my neighbor's master bedroom window.
