Default Author John le Carré has died at 89

I’ve read some of his books but came to know of him through the film adaptations. He was definitely one of the best in the spy genre.

Jesus. I had no idea this guy was still alive. His novels are from an era so long ago I had assumed he had been dead for decades

^ He has has a long career, for sure, but had a couple of works hit the screen just a few years ago.

The Night Manager miniseries was made in 2016 and was excellent. Book was mid 90s

Constant Gardener was in the 2000s, and Our kind of Traitor was written in 2010.

Tailor of Panama and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy were my favorites of his. RIP John. You did some great work.

Not at all. In fact, he's been continuously writing novels since then using current events of the time as his backdrops (post-9/11, Iraqi invasion, Russian oligarchs) and just last year released his final book set in a Brexit world of which he was very outspoken ("I think Brexit is totally irrational, that it’s evidence of dismal statesmanship on our part, and lousy diplomatic performances. Things that were wrong with Europe could be changed from inside Europe” or to put it more bluntly "an unmitigated cluster####")

A few years ago I went on a bit of a binge of his work. One of my favourite writers. Now time to pull another off the bookshelf.

Here's an excellent obituary if anyone's interested. He led an interesting life even outside of his career as a writer.

Ditto.

"That guy was still alive?"
