Another huge loss from a great Texas band, Wade from Iron Age passed away now. Riley from Power Trip, who also just passed away a few weeks ago, said that without Iron Age, Power Trip wouldn't have existed.

Soen have dropped a new song and are releasing a new album in January. Looking forward to it, their last album "Lotus" was one of the best prog metal/rock albums I've ever heard.
song's been shared already here, but it's pretty easily my favorite metal track of the year and they've recently released another version featuring Ryo Kino####a from Crystal Lake, so sorry but here we go again

Sure was interesting to go back and read the posts from many years ago about Nightwish. Kind of surprised that they haven't been mentioned here since 2013. They've released 2 new albums in recent years, Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human. :II: Nature:
Spoiler!

Nightwish went downhill hard when Floor Jansen became the lead singer, which sucks because she's an awesome singer and tears through the old stuff live very well. The new albums just sound so bland IMO, and Tuomas' writing has gotten so damn pretentious it takes away any enjoyment I might have
They peaked with the albums Once and Dark Passion Play. Nothing they've released in the last decade comes close to this kind of energy

While I agree that the quality of the songwriting isn't what it used to be, "downhill hard" is overstating it by quite a bit. Their new stuff is still very good imo, even if it is a step down from the content they put out during the Tarja/Anette eras.
Ghost Love Score (the live version in particular) is without a doubt my favorite song from them, and maybe my favorite song from anyone. I've listened to it many times and still get goosebumps every time. Elan is probably their 2nd best song. As for their newest album, it seems that they've chosen complexity over emotion (which is unfortunate), and questionable production decisions, but it's still a pretty good album overall.
