I'm just saying if the owners want to pay for it then let them. It doesn't affect the big club in any way.

Without trying to mix anything up...
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Dube - Bennett - Leivo
Nord/Lucic - Ryan - Simon
Lucic/Nord

Nope. Players in the AHL don't pay Escrow.

Well yeah. Just kind of interesting to have so much money tied up on your AHL team in this year, of all years no? Not suggesting we should stop ownership from doing it.
When it comes to buyouts and spending on players, Flame GM’s seem to get what they want so you can’t say the team is run on a shoestring with regards to player costs. The Neal buyout was an exception but I’d like to give a medal to whoever it was that blocked that one (if the rumor is true).

I think this is a no risk high potential move for you guys again
Leivo is a 2nd line RW, not elite, but legit top 6, his production proves it and it's often been with less than top 6 talent
Only fear I would have with him is his skating was never an asset, and hes had another leg injury and if it gets worse it might become a serious detriment to his game
But if he can stay at average or just a bit below average skating ability, I think hes an awesome top 9, solid top 6 player

Interesting, so would that technically mean a player that signs a 1 way deal makes more money in the AHL? And would make less when called up due to paying into escrow?

1.99 5v5 P/60 ranks 4th on the Canucks among 400+ minute forwards.
On the Flames, that would have ranked second behind only Mangiapane. Tkachuk was 1.97 5v5 P/60.
Sustainable? Probably not.
A sign of some skill in a middle six role? Probably.

Leivo might surprise if given some serious opportunity in the top 9.

These latest depth signings (Leivo, Simon, Nordstrom) seem a little too good/established to be the 13th forward. Really think Tre is getting his ducks in a row for a trade that moves a forward out. Especially since Leivo or Simon could play in the top 6 if neccessary.

Certainly sounds like he was brought in to be in the top 9:

Crazy depth there and lots of interchangeable players that you can slot through out the line-up. With the addition of Markstrom and the same depth additions applied to the D I think the management is going all in on this core.

If Levio pans out, I would like to see that. Could give the coaching staff options on the right side, which creates options down the middle.

Disagree about Nordstrom -- think he's an ideal 13th forward. I think that's exactly where he will be slotted.

Yes but the amount at risk for escrow is certainly higher now. Even if it artificially capped.
So what is the latest on an AHL season? Not sure anyone on an AHL contract should be counting on that cash just yet.

Maybe we’re just not used to a bonafide NHLer as the 13th forward. Nordstrom played an 82 game season in the NHL so he certainly has been an everyday player but I believe last year he was more of a depth guy on a team with good forwards.

The AHL will take their walking orders from the NHL.
Until the NHL is set on what's happening, the AHL will be in limbo.
