Jimmy Rutherford told the Athletic's Josh Yohe today there is "a very, very good chance" that he trades one of Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry this summer.

Interesting - he always comes across as grumpy but he's more often pretty blunt about where he wants to go. I'm not sure they'll get the return they probably want for either given this year having a few FA's goaltenders out there, but in a package deal he'll probably get his way.

I'd rather Jarry, because he had a better year and is an RFA who likely need to sign a bridge deal and then the Flames can platoon him with another guy making platoon goalie money.
Murray is much riskier as he's trended down the last couple seasons but is an RFA who will be looking for a longer term contract getting paid starter money, so you're putting all your eggs one basket...a basket that might have a big ass hole in it. Of course, if you gambled on Murray and he regains his form, you've got a 26 year old starting goalie who has a wealth of post season experience and two Cups.

Tbh, I would definitely take that for Johnny. The framework makes a lot of sense. I might ask for someone else instead of Poehling, though. Maybe Juulsen.

I beleive Domi is an RFA this summer and Poehling had 2 points in 27 NHL games and 13 points in 36 AHL games this season, not a stellar rookie season.

There are many proposals that are more worthy of this, but what the hell.

Johnny is under team control for two more years. Domi could be under the Flames' control for seven.
That's a huge difference in value.

Domi is a top 6 forward who can play wing or C and brings some jam, Poehling is a so-so prospect, he's trending to be a full time NHLer, just probably more of a middle 6 type guy. 16th overall is not overly sexy either but you'll get a very good prospect there for sure.
I dunno. Pretty 'meh' return for your best offensive player. Certainly doesn't make the team better by itself. Would have to be accompanied by more moves, namely the signing of Taylor Hall.

except Domi isn't the same level player. You don't get better by trading elite players for middle 6 players

Domi isn't a middle-six player, come on now. He's a solid top-six centre/winger with toughness and high-level scoring ability.
If you can get Domi AND a mid-first for Johnny, you run away laughing.

Max Domi being a Type 1 Diabetic does come with a degree of long term risk as it can unpredictably impact performance. -All indications are he manages it well.

Poehling is a worse prospect than Janko. That would be an iginla level return for johnny.

Well, no it really wouldn't be an Iginla level return. The mid 1st in a deep draft is already better than anything the Flames got back for Jarome. Domi is also better than anything the Flames got back for Jarome, so while I'm not in love with this rumor, you are certainly way off base with that comment.

Yeah that's just not accurate. Max Domi is a great player. Tkachuk/Domi/Bennett would probably be a dominant line. You're really gonna tell me that he's on the same level as Hanowski and Agostino?

For sure that’s a much better offer than what we got WHEN we traded Iginla but if I remember correctly when Iggy was around the same age and heading towards UFA weren’t we offered deals around Brayden Schenn, 1st, Wayne Simmonds, Slava Voynov who were all big prospects/young NHLers at the time. I don’t think it’s really a fair benchmark to use that fake Domi package against the Iggy package as the age differences and contract situations of both scenarios are completely different; Montreal wouldn’t be ‘renting’ Gaudreau for a playoff run and they wouldn’t be getting a 36 year old UFA either.
Is Domi a good piece for Gaudreau?? It’s a start, but with a mid 1st even in a deep draft the other + needs to be a good one IMO.
Gaudreau + Oiler 3rd (which ever year it becomes) for Domi + 1st + Cole Caufield
