If Trev was reluctant to trade Ferland, he would not have been considered the throw-in, but an essential part of the deal. Throw-ins tend to be replaceable parts.

Trade him at next years draft before his final year starts.
I think also playing a year with the addition of Hall raises his value.

Compared to the other pieces traded, I would definitely consider him a throw it or slight sweetener.
Man I love Lindholm but I really wish there was a way we could have had both Hamilton and Fox happy to be here on our back end. I understand both were not going to work out here but I think we look back on this knowing we traded two Norris candidates.

It's a damn shame the Fox thing didn't work out for him here. That was a great draft pick.

As I've stated MANY times, there are 3 outcomes
1. Johnny leaves
2. Johnny re-signs another deal, probably at a high and risky cap hit and t erm
3. Johnny is traded
This has never been about certainty of him leaving. This has been about which of those 3 outcomes is best for the franchise long-term.
The above is another example of someone miss-representing and over simplifying what others are saying instead of engaging in healthy debate and discussion.

Lots of people close to the team have speculated that Gaudreau may not be looking to re-sign long term in Calgary.
Leslie, Francis, Boomer, Elliotte Friedman (on one of his Boomer in the morning hits), etc have all made a comment about Gaudreau maybe looking to move closer to home in Free Agency.
Is it a certainty? No, but as Bingo's post stated there are only really three outcomes here, and BT needs to determine what is the best outcome for the Flames.
1. Johnny leaves
2. Johnny re-signs another deal, probably at a high and risky cap hit and term
3. Johnny is traded
Scenario 1 is worst case scenario and scenario 2 and 3 both have pro's and cons. But it would be foolish to think that the Flames aren't looking at what type of return they can get by Trading Gaudreau this offseason. Really teams should be doing that with all their players every offseason.

So...
Gaudreau grew up a Flyers fan
He lives like an hour away from the Flyers arena in the off season
He's really close to his family who all live out there too
A seemingly credible reporter like Leslie has said he believes Gaudreau will leave as a UFA
His girlfriend is a nurse in Philly
Do we really believe he is going to stay in Calgary?

^ His best buddy plays for the Flyers
Lots of smoke as to why he'd want to play for the Flyers, but that ultimately doesn't mean he ends up there.

At this point I'm just hoping Treliving can extract value out of trading him, to be honest.

I don't think it means we should trade him to the flyers, unless they give the best return. I'm still holding out hope we can rake the Sabres over the coals and take Cozens and 8 oa.
It seems some people don't want to trade players because they like them. Think of it as a business and do what us best for the team.

The Flyers may want him in the fold but might not offer the most given they feel they'd have some sort of home field advantage.
Though that is the team that negotiated against themselves to get Kevin Hayes into the fold so who knows.

I can't wait until the debate is settled for good. Time for the team to move on. Building around wingers is a fool's errand anyway. Re-signing 13 would be a bad move anyway for the 80m it will cost.
I like Gaudreau but no team is winning the cup with him as their best player. We can barely win a playoff game a year. It will be great to turn the page on this version of the team. I've haven't been as disappointed in the trajectory of this team as I have been during the Johnny years. Let's capitalize on his trade value and get this thing back on track.

To me the other variable is a big one as well, it's the Flyers.
The Flyers are the type of organization that would love to bring "home" the local guy, are not shy to throw money around in free agency, and are generally a competitive team.
If it was another team then maybe I'd look and wonder if it was possible, but the Flyers are the team that love making splashes like this.

If you can get something good for Johnny, and sign Hall it's not the end of the world.
Tkachuk
Hall
Mangiapane
That's solid LW depth. When your 2nd line LW has a career average of 0.9 points per game and a Hart trophy, you're doing OK.

Boy I hope the Hall to CGY thing happens as it appears he’s already been cemented into the lineup next year.

I see it as an opportunity you cannot let slip.
Add some solid pieces, or one great piece, for Johnny. Spend the Johnny money (who I think will be paid more than Hall in his next contract) on signing Hall. Team is stronger for it, as great as Johnny is. This team needs more than one guy.
