Tetachuk started off great but has gotten progressively worse this season, and Thomson is very inconsistent.
The Tigers are back to looking like world beaters again. When they are playing like this the sky is the limit. They just made Calgary and Edmonton look like chumps on back to back nights here in Med Hat. Plus Sogaard has found his groove again which makes the Tigers a very dangerous team.
Speaking of the Hitmen, wow what a dirty team. They were not happy the other night with the way things were going and were out for a pound of flesh. Lots of dirty stick work behind the play. Woo and Van de leest in particular were stirring the pot. To be fair, the officiating was fairly slanted in the Tigers favor in both games I thought.
Canes little slump combined with the Tigers cruising has Med Hat into 2nd place now, very likely they will host the Canes in round 1. Yikes.

Pats already signed Beddard ahead of the draft, can't say I've seen that happen before.

Will be interesting to see how the breakdown between 'community' hockey and 'school' hockey. Last few years it seems more players who come from sports schools are being drafted, especially at the top end of the draft. Versus those coming from the traditional stream.

To quote myself:
First round was 50/50 between schools and traditional models. Top pick was from a school and 3 of the top 5 picks were school picks. If you want to break it down by province (top ten picks):
Manitoba - 0
Sask - 4 (all from traditional models)
Alberta - 2. One school, one regular
BC - 4. All from schools.

I don't know that the provincial breakdown says anything other than that there are more schools in BC than the other provinces. I am seeing that they are becoming increasingly popular with those who can afford it. Amazing the money people are willing to pump into their kids for whatever edge they can get.

The owners of the Portland Winterhawks have filed for bankruptcy. They were in first place when the season was paused.

The team itself declared bankruptcy, but it's related to the owners' overall issues rather than anything to do with the team itself.
https://www.oregonlive.com/sports/20...cy-filing.html
Quote:
Winterhawks owner William Gallacher allegedly failed to repay money his companies had borrowed in 2018. The lender, Bridging Financing, went to court in Toronto earlier this month and claims it took control of several Gallacher’s companies, including the hockey team.
The court-appointed receiver is now in charge.
It’s unclear whether the bankruptcy and receivership will play out in Portland or in Canada. A number of Gallacher companies, including the hockey team’s parent, filed Chapter 15 bankruptcies. Chapter 15 is a relatively new type of bankruptcy filing for insolvency cases where the debtor’s interests are in more than one country.

The WHL has a provincial only schedule for laid out with Alberta to begin Feb 26. RED DEER PLAYERS WILL BE LIVING IN THE RINK!!! Is sounds like fun actually. Also the Hitmen who are playing out of the Stoney Nakoda Arena will be living in the hotel there as well.

Instead of billet residences, the Rebels players will be housed in the Centrium suites following consultation with the Westerner, City of Red Deer and the suite holders.
“Their mental health is something that’s important to me,” said Sutter. “I was concerned that the kids would have to be in their bedrooms at billet houses. If other people were in the house, they couldn’t be hanging around the house, they would have to be in their rooms.
“We have things set up on the (Centrium) concourse . . . ping pong tables, basketball hoops, things like that. And we’ve moved our gym equipment upstairs because we can only have so many people in a room.
“We can’t put everyone in one room together, we have to use two or three dressing rooms

I'm not sure how the other Alberta teams rosters are shaping up, but the Tigers will be dressing no less than 5 rookie forwards every game. When you consider that Willms and Danielson didn't play a lot last season it makes it basically 7 rookie forwards starting every game if everyone is healthy.
I imagine many of the teams will be icing much younger rosters this year though.
