Any advice for someone that could never really get into it like myself? I just found the combat to be clunky and kind of a chore, so never got very far into it despite finding every else interesting. This thread has me wanting to give it another go

I have it but I got it free with my video card so it became one of those games that always got set aside because I never invested money into it. It being in my GOG library made it easy to forget I had it too. I'll play it eventually but I already have multiple games that are unfinished so I don't want to start another.

I can't say I found it clunky to be honest. Before I started playing Witcher 3 last year I did decide to play through both Witcher 1 and 2, and those feel really clunky to me, especially Witcher 1 which really doesn't hold up well over time. It's probably why I feel Witcher 3's combat and movement is a breath of fresh air compared to the previous two games.

Yeah I think 3's combat only feels better compared to 1 and 2, I don't remember feeling it was good in general. I just got used to it.

Each Witcher game is a massive improvement on the previous one.

never played it, or even heard of it until this thread. Very curious to see what its all about.
Forgive my ignorance, but is the netflix show based off of it?

Debatable. There are those who feel the things 2 did better than 3 puts it over the edge. Especially in terms of story.

The Witcher is originally a novel series. The games were based on that novel series until they became a feanchise of their own. The Netflix show is based on the novels, not the games.

Both the Witcher games and Netflix show are based off of a series of Polish novels. The show is not connected to the game.

The game is a lot like Mass Effect in that, yes, there is a lot of combat but neither series does that particular aspect very well. I think it comes down to expectations. It's a story based RPG first and a third person action game second. If you go in looking for Devil May Cry or Dark Souls you're going to be disappointed. To me, the game was at it's best when I was out exploring the world, interacting with interesting characters and getting wrapped up in the story. I didn't feel the combat got in the way of that.

I played all three back to back. The third is completely unrecognizable from the first.

That's definitely the points of the game I loved, but any time I got to a big combat section I just wanted to stop playing.
I'll definitely have to give it another try, maybe I should just have a go on the easiest difficulty

Very nice of you for the draw! I’d like to throw my name in the draw for a PS4 copy!

I started playing Witcher 3 with a keyboard and mouse, but it seems like the game would be better using a controller. Opinions?
I'll definitely have to give it another go. It felt like a game that you could get sucked into, like Fallout and Skyrim. The amount of time I invested in Fallout 4 and Skyrim is insane, and I miss that experience.

I haven't played Witcher 3 (or any Witcher game for that matter) but the Netflix show caught my interest. If I did win it, I would prefer to play it on PC. Thanks for doing this, btimbit!

Added you both!
For anyone in the know, does the PS store have a gift buying option or am I literally going to have to buy a physical copy and mail it or something? lol. If that's the case I selfishly hope a PC user wins, steam ftw
