Friday night...
MSU had their home opener against Cornell. The Spartans lost 3-2. Nodler had no points and Mattson didn't play.
ASU hosted Quinnipiac, winning 5-3. Koumontzis took a Checking from Behind penalty late in the first period. In the NCAA, this is a 5 minute major and game misconduct. He had no points prior to his ejection.
Denver continued their strong start to the season, pushing their perfect record to 7-0-0 with a 6-2 victory over winless Niagara. Pettersen had 2 PP assists in the game, which puts him over the point per game mark, with 8 points (1G/7A) in 7 games.

Denver extended their winning streak to 8 games with a 4-0 win over Niagara. Pettersen had no points.

Gotta think Mattson has to be the worst pick we have made in a long long time. Just died after HS hockey.

The Button brothers were super high on this guy for some reason. I think Craig had him in his top 50 draft prospects in his draft year. Makes you wonder some times about those two.

Not a great choice, but there’s very few players taken after him in that draft that have any NHL games

Mattson was always a high-risk pick though - the type that a lot of fans want this team to make. He was a really raw player, but the combination of size and speed, with sprinkles of skill made him a good gamble. There were a few people on this board that were happy with that pick IIRC. He just hasn't developed at all - maybe it has to do with the program, or maybe something else kind of went off the rails with him. Who knows. He was, however, an intriguing gamble at the draft.

This seems hyperbolic. No worse of a pick than Joly or Fischer the following season, this isn't uncommon for guys grabbed in rounds 5-7 because more often than not they are going to be boom-bust type picks.

This weekend...
https://twitter.com/user/status/1192578693937283072
ASU went north to Alaska and their bus got stuck in the snow.
They split the weekend series, losing Friday night 4-3 and winning Saturday night 4-0. Koumontzis had no points on Friday and 1G/1A on Saturday.
----------
MSU visited Penn State. They won 2-0 on Friday and lost 6-4 on Saturday. Nodler played in both games, Mattson only saw action on Saturday. Neither had any points over the weekend.
----------
Denver visited Minnesota-Duluth to take on the back-to-back defending National Champions in their first big test of the young season.
Friday night went into the books as a 3-3 tie because the NCAA doesn't officially have shootouts, but the NCHC Conference does conduct them for Conference playoff rankings. Denver won the shootout.
Saturday night, the Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 5-2. Their record is now 8-1-1 after 10 games.
Pettersen had no points on Friday and one assist on Saturday.
----------
Season totals so far: - Pettersen: 1G / 8A in 10GP -- Tied for 3rd on the team in points and tied for 1st in assists
- Koumontzis: 3G / 4A in 10GP -- 5th on the team in points
- Nodler: 1G / 1A in 8GP
- Mattson: 0G / 0A in 4GP

worse player does not equal worse pick and Joly wasn't even able to get a pro contract, so claiming he is better is very debatable.

Joly at least showed flashes and a bit of promise at times. Mattson....nothing. Terrible pick. Im sure the Flames scouts would even tell you the same over a beer.

TSN has announced the slate of NCAA hockey games they'll be picking up through the end of the year: http://collegehockeyinc.com/articles...rns-to-tsn.php
Most will only be available online, but 6 will be airing on TSN or TSN2.
The only one featuring any of the Flames prospects will be on Friday, December 13 at 7pm MT with Colorado College at Denver. It will be available on TSN.

This weekend was the first of two straight off weeks for ASU. I guess they needed time to thaw out from the trip to Alaska.
MSU played a rare Thursday/Saturday series this weekend, with a home-and-homer against archrival Michigan.
Thursday night's game saw MSU on the road in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines jumped out to 2-0 and 3-1 leads before the Spartans rallied back to win it 4-3. Nodler had an assist on the PPGWG.
Saturday night's action shifted to East Lansing where the Spartans defended home ice with a 3-0 win. Nodler scored the opening goal of the game (and eventual game winner) 2 minutes into the game.
Mattson didn't play in either game.
After starting their season with a flawless 8-0-0 record, Denver has struggled the last two weeks. This weekend, North Dakota came calling.
Friday night's game goes into the books as a 1-1 tie, with North Dakota winning the NCHC tie-breaking OT. Pettersen had no points.
Saturday's game was a 4-1 win for UND. Pettersen broke the shutout halfway through the third, but by then the damage was done and the Pioneers couldn't get any closer.

If true that's a big loss. He was a big part of them getting promoted last year.

They didn't get promoted last year. They finished third in the Division 1A tournament and only the top team gets promoted.
