I don't know what your next step should be, but I'll add don't worry about not getting that warranty, they're not worth the paper they're printed on. Whatever went wrong wouldn't be covered anyway

I didn’t get the extended warranty due to its $6000 price tag. And the dealership is already saying “you bought a used car with no warranty” and said they will help me out with the bill as in a 50/50 split which could still be upwards to $2000.
I don’t want to name the dealership but it was a reputable dealership in the Auto-mall and it’s being negotiated as to what’s going to happen at the moment but what if any sort of consumer laws do I have that could possibly be on my side I can get the help from if I need.
Any help would be appreciated.

How big was the oil pool? Usually a pan leak is much slower and only shows up as a couple spots.

The pool was about 7”-8” around, looks like it pooled on the skid plate and dropped out while it was sitting. Just odd it sat in my garage for almost 2 weeks with no issue or signs of leaking Until it sat for 3 days.

They haven’t hit full blown dirtbaggery as of yet but if they do I will have no problem naming them.

I'd consider taking it to a MB specialist for a second opinion.

You can check with AMVIC to see if you have any recourse but unless you can prove that they knew about the issue before hand and didn’t disclose it, you’re most likely on the hook for the repairs.

Did you have an independent mechanic inspect it before purchase? If not- and you also declined the warranty, I kind of think the dealer is being good to you by offering to pay 50%.

You bought a 7 year old Mercedes SUV? You are a far braver man than I.
Second, and I don’t mean to sound like an #######, but did you expect the dealership to provide some sort of implied warranty on a 7 year old vehicle? Assuming they didn’t otherwise knowingly hide the issue, how could they be held responsible?
Particularly if you are getting a vehicle like this, it is so important to get an independent inspection first. But even then, things happen. Especially with 7 year old German automobiles.
Very sorry to hear, not trying to be an ass.

I'd sue them, personally, but it'll be a lot of work.

So 7 years is what I can expect out of a 75-80k vehicle? What kind of garbage is that?

Dumb question, but would talking to insurance make sense? Also, did the dealership claim some type of 100 point inspection? If yes, I’d ask insurance. 14 days should not qualify as normal wear and tear? There might be some way to argue it?

Is this a real thing? Honest question. Never bought a used car from a dealer before. They let you take the car and bring it to a mechanic. Does the dealership charge to let you do this?

In the US they have a "Lemon law" in every state which allows the buyer to return a seriously flawed vehicle and get a full refund from the dealer or even a private seller, from memory I think it's 60 days from purchase. the trick is to prove the actual vehicle is a lemon and it isn't something you did like running it with no oil..etc.
But owning this for 14 days/500 km's has the ear markings of an easy lawsuit, it doesn't cost much to file a suit yourself and for $4k I bet they will settle within days of being served with the summons. If they offered to pay half it means they know they should pay!
Also, what was covered in the $6000 extended warranty? most used car warranty's are drive train only and "up to" 36k depending on age/mileage, a friends 4 year old Honda CR-V cost a little over $2000 to extend the warranty another 24k

If you bought from a reputable dealership then check the documentation you signed. See if there is something like a 6 month warranty included. Many dealerships have something to this effect in their contract for their used inventory outside the extended warranty offering. As well, see what the contract states about the condition of the vehicle when sold. Dealerships typically inspect and fix heavier issues on their trade ins before re-selling them if I recall. They don’t try and mask and sell ‘as is’ like in a private sale.
You can try and sue but that will cost you more than the 50/50 split they’re offering. That said, bring your documentation to a lawyer to best review the contract and see if there’s a breach should you feel the dealership should own full accountability.
Good luck my friend. Sorry this has happened. Buying used from a dealership typically houses a little more trust than a private sale at the time of purchase. I hope you can find resolution to your satisfaction.

It is certainly a real thing and some dealerships will arrange for you to take the vehicle for a morning or afternoon to get an inspection. If they don't allow it I go on the assumption that they are trying to hide something.
I haven't bought many vehicles but one time when I did find a used car I wanted they wouldn't let me take it for an inspection so I walked away. They called me every day for two weeks trying to make the sale happen. I told them all they had to do was let me have an inspection and if it looked good we could work something out.

A large, reputable dealership should have checked out the car, diagnosed the issue and repaired it prior to putting it on their lot for sale. This is more of the stuff I would expect from the small used car dealers that are simply flipping auctioned cars from Ontario and Quebec. There's a big difference between an oil pan that is sweating and one that is hemorrhaging oil.

This isn't something his personal vehicle insurance would cover.
