Not really. The Ramones were influenced by Phil Spector as much as anyone, and the Buzzcocks had hooks for days, so pop been in punk’s DNA since the beginning.
I’m loving this new (Sandy) Alex G. He’s like an experimental Elliott Smith. AOTY contender for me.

they'll also release a cover of "Heartless World" by Teaze next month, can't wait for that one either.
They are fantastic and deserve more success. Their last album was really good ("Awakening" and "Apex" especially) and they did a great job with "Northwest Passage". Honoring the original while staying true to the band sound is a difficult task and they did it really well.

The best covers are when a band makes a song their own, way too many simply try to imitate the original song and I don't see the point. Machine Head's cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name is another awesome cover that respects the original while still making it their own
