NHL organizations seem to have more compassion than generally thought when players run into personal challenges.
Over the last few years:
Boston Rask, Ottawa Craig Anderson Flames Stajan, Winnipeg Tyler Myers and now Byfuglien all were treated well when real life got worse than hockey.

TSN report says it's not for health reasons, or family health reasons.
Quote:
"We certainly granted it. Dustin is a big part of our family here. There’s always an open policy for discussions. We always care about people of our family. One thing I will say, health-wise, everything is good for him and his family. But again, from our standpoint, we support Dustin and look forward to the resolution."

Can someone please remind me of the cap implications should he choose to retire?

I hope he can come to a resolution here that's best for himself and his family.

Not an over 35 contract, so Jets should be off the hook for his cap hit?

I don’t think there is any
As long as he didn’t sign his contract after turning 35

Man, you would have to be pretty unhappy with life to pass up $8 million to play hockey.

I don’t think there is a chance that Brodie waives his NTC to go to Winnipeg.

On the plus side, it could allow the Jets to go long term with Kyle Connor

Buff has made $65 million over his career. He has his championship. He's a big boy, and he hits a lot. That wears on a body.
I never begrudge anyone who wants to leave a party early. There's more to life.

Wonder if we might see Hamonic moved to Winnipeg and Brodie re-signed.
