In regards to movies, music, style, etc, I feel the 80's was all about checking your brain at the door and having fun. As a young teenager growing up in the mid-80's I can say that they really nailed this show as this is what the 80's were like. I am not really a nostalgic person and try to stay away from immediacy biased takes. You will never hear me say that cars were better in this decade, or movies, music were better in this decade, hockey was better in this decade, etc. I will say there's little doubt in my mind that the 80's were by far the most fun decade.
I don’t know if it was the “negatives” that were groan-worthy, but the need to drop some broad social commentary on the state of a generation to figure out why people like a tv show.
I mean... the answer is probably just that it’s fun entertainment.
Though I have heard that people like Avengers because it takes their mind off this generations breakdown of the nuclear family, and emotional ripples this change will have on generations to come.
Or.. y’know... it’s neat.
(All in good fun)
Isn’t that the same thing but you just left out the because.
Fun fact, The Neverending Story theme was composed by Giorgio Moroder, considered to be the father of disco, and the source of many many 80's synth staples that inspire modern synthwave that is featured in the show.

Finally binged the whole season this weekend. I think season 3 is by far my favourite season. I loved the return to horror - the mind flayer was terrifying and totally disgusting. I also found that this season was a LOT more graphic than its previously been. The last episode had me crying, it was all so perfectly executed. Going to go back and watch season one again!

I liked it because it did get darker and grittier and things like Dustin 'dating' a Mormon girl and Steve working a dead-end ice-cream job after High School and Mike's mom wanting to cheat on his dad with some sleazy lifeguard really helped the Mind-Flayer slam home to these naive and idealistic children that life is really just an endless series of crushing disappointments one after another no matter how old you get.

I thought it was great! Lots of fun. Maybe not as fresh as the first season but definitely a step up from S2.

Watched the first 5 episodes of the new season. They're really leaning into the horror with this one, which I like. It's definitely got a bit of a Nightmare on Elm Street vibe so far. You can also tell that they've got a bigger budget now as the episodes are pretty much movie quality in terms of production and effects.
I like how different characters have teamed up in these episodes. Nancy and Robin have great chemistry together, while Steve and Dustin continue to provide most of the comedic elements. The Joyce/Murray pairing is also fun.
The use of music in this show continues to be top notch as well. I ended up going down a Kate Bush youtube rabbit hole the other night as a result. Man, I forgot how much I loved the "Hounds of Love" album back in the day.

About four episodes in so far. Really great. And yeah definitely more mature/horror themed. It's a pair of boobs away from being a full on 80s slasher at this point.
