#Flames GM Brad Treliving on contract negotiations with Matthew Tkachuk: "Saw Mathew was riding a horse (at the @calgarystampede parade) the other day… I was trying to run behind him."
In all seriousness though ... "We're still working away at it ... nothing new to report other than the dialogue continues."

Bit of an orange Julius rumour but a friend is an usher with the flames. He said Thachuk recently turned down 7 yr 53MM totally unverified but I don’t think anyone would be surprised at him turning down $7.5 avv long term

Not to discredit you or your friend, but I'd be shocked if an Usher for the Flames would come into first hand knowledge so easily, especially with how good Brad is at keeping things under wraps.
Believable though, I still think Matthew gets 8-8.5 for 6-7 years.

For sure! That’s why I prefaced it with the orange Julius rumour. There hasn’t been any new on this so I thought I’d throw it in anyway. Not solid content at all. More a conversation piece

Perhaps Matt doesn't want to be the one that sets the market up for everyone else?

Why would any player care? I expect that when the two parties come to terms and everyone is happy they will sign the deal regardless of how many RFAs are still unsigned.

In a sense, Aho has already set the first benchmark.

He is not worth 8+ million a year. Does lots right but not at any Aho type level.

Maybe not.
But still a reasonable comparable. Draisatl is another decent one. But if he gets 8.5 IMO he will give up term. 6-7 years. Just my hunch.

Aho is for sure a tier above. Each one of these RFA contracts though will be used as a measuring stick for the others. I wouldn’t discount $8M+ for Tkachuk if the term is right.
I just pray he gets signed before the Marner contract skews things even worse.

Unless Marner signs an offer sheet, I don't see a way that he isn't the last RFA to get done.

Aho has 0.81 career points per game, and 0.34 career goals per game.
Tkachuk has 0.78 career points per game, and 0.32 career goals per game.
Aho skates faster and takes faceoffs.
Tkachuk hits, fights, draws penalties and leads (already wears an A).
Aho is 6’ 176lbs
Tkachuk is 6’2” 202lbs
They are both 21 and have each played 3 seasons.

Oh, Christ. It's July, for Pete's sake. Nobody should be feeling anything resembling animosity towards Tkachuk at this point. Calling him names is just strange behaviour.
He will be signed.

I've noticed a few people throw insults and weird names at Tkachuk over him being American. I'm as patriotic over hockey players as any, but in this context, it's just odd

I'd be happy with Tkachuk at 8. If that was the ask, I don't see why it wouldn't be done already. It's possible that Tkachuk's camp is also happy with 8, but is just in the milking it out phase, which is why we aren't hearing many crazy rumors about how difficult this process is, like with the Marner negotiations.

And its not like Tkachuck is playing with top line offensive talent other than on the PP.
Pretty silly to suggest they Aho is miles ahead...they are different
