Seems like a weird fit for Chicago but I guess they did very well with Strome.

I like Nylander, but I had thought Jokiharu was their d man of the future. Either way, that's a neat trade.

I don't think Buffalo gets enough discredit for these young guys. They're nearly as bad as Edmonton in developing.
Armia, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Zadorov, and Nylander have all been really big disappointments compared to expectations, even tempered expectations.
Ristolainen was looking like a future number 1 stud, but he stalled heavily. Reinhart, not a bad player especially last year, hasn't really lived up to his expectations though.
Too early to call on Mittelstadt.
Clear passes on Eichel and Dahlin but that's probably despite the Sabres.

Weird for Chicago - not like Nylander has only struggled at the NHL level, he hasn’t been good in the AHL.
He’s played 3 seasons in the AHL and over that time he has an NHL equivalency of 20 points.
I’m guessing that Chicago thinks his struggles have been mostly injury related and that a change of scenery will help.

Good thing it wasn’t Brodie for Alex Nylander. I’m sure they inquired.

Chicago had similar success with Strome just last year. Nylander is only 21 and had a 50 point pace in the AHL last year. He'll likely get top 6 minutes in Chicago playing with the likes of Toews, Kane, Debrincat, Saad and Strome. Big chance for him to kick start his career.
The Hawks best prospects prior to this draft were d-man.

Buoyed by how good Keith’s deal was when it was signed 100 years ago, as well as Hossa signing a sweetheart deal knowing he’d develop a spontaneous equipment allergy when it no longer paid him.
No sympathy for the Hawks having to pay the piper now for years of cap dodging that brought them several cups.

I would have thought Jokiharju would have fetched more. Nylander is no sure bet for the Top 6.

You know that because it's chicago, Nylander is going to put up 35 goals and 75+ points.

They won multiple cups with lottery high end drafting. Not cap dodging.
They’ve been in cap hell ever since, and have been feeding star players to the league for free, because they can’t afford them. Byfuglien, Ladd, Panarin, Saad.
I can’t believe they’d trade Jokiharju... he’s signed for two more seasons at $950... with their D money tied up in aging vets. Weird.

They got away with murder on Hossa and Keith (who I’m sure will also develop a mysterious LTIR condition within the next couple years that will have absolutely nothing to do with back-diving salary). Cap dodging was absolutely a factor in their success.

Except Keith is still decent for his cap hit and I'm pretty sure the other 29 GM's may have raised a stink if there was foul play on Hossa's diagnosis.

This might establish a better value for puljujarvi and the Oilers unfortunately.
