Capitals may or may not qualify RFA Burakovsky, but seemingly will

Interesting. Contributed at key times to the Caps' 2018 run but has been inconsistent in his young career. Definitely a reclamation guy

He's a disappointing 2013 1st-rounder so you know he's right up Treliving's alley.

QO would be 3.25m. Certainly one of those where you could argue both qualifying and not qualifying him. Hasn't lived up to his potential but could be one you'd regret letting go. Caps themselves got a lot out of a late bloomer in Connolly.

I remember a few years ago Bob Mckenzie saying Burakovsky had one of the best shots he has seen.

No one will qualify him. UFA? Lots will try and sign him. I think for most teams he is a decent 3rd line LW/RW option.

Eklund was trying to push a Burakovsky for Puljujarvi narrative earlier in the week. Could make sense for both sides?

They would have to qualify him, so no.

If he goes UFA, the Flames might have a good chance to sign him. His best friend is Rasmus Andersson and he'd be a good fit here as a big skilled winger.

A good friend of our Rasmus, I wouldn't be surprised if we were in on him somehow.

Dont think the Oulets have the room for his QO let alone the Extra Oilers tax they have to pay guys to stay there.

Part of the issue the Capitals have with his is that he doesn’t play to his size. He can be weak on the puck and won’t win many puck battles. His speed and shot should make up for that if he can find some consistency.

Burakovsky - Jankowski - Neal would be great as a bunch of huge intimidating guys, who fall over in a strong wind.

Well with some of the market shifting in terms of which players are getting paid.
A player like Burakovsky who could be better, but hasn't been yet, and requires a qualifying offer above what his current worth might be will see teams be willing to take their chances and cut these guys loose thinking that they can either negotiate a lower cost deal, or find a replacement UFA for less.
The fact is that some part of the player market is going to get squeezed to shift the money to the second contract players, and there will be value to be had for GM's in that part of the market. So Corey Perry over the next 3-4 years won't be able to replace Burakovsky. But next year if you can get Perry for 1.5...yeah he likely can fill that job for less money, than find an older player next year who can do the same thing for a year. So there is a speculation game at play where GM's are going to try and get the jump on anticipating where they can find value in the UFA market, and shift the way they build their teams to suit.

May not qualify him, but they could still sign him for less if he is willing to negotiate.
He may just want to move on at that point though.
