For sure. Attractive to come to your hometown, but why sit behind the entire OBC and experience what you've laughed at from afar... vs. sit behind Yzerman and experience what you just watched in TB
If he was going to move, it was to be the big guy again

So, when do the OBC heads roll?
Who's the hatchet man? Katz? Holland?
Who survives the purge?
Should we start a pool?

I think you guys are selling Holland short. I mean, he's inheriting one of the best minor league teams around. And then there's Bakersfield.
Holland has a plethora of quality young players coming up and the Oilers as as stacked as they come. Just ask their fans.

Yeah I think this is a really good hire for what the franchise needs to have happen.
They have to start fleshing out the rot of Lowe and company and it had to be someone who knows the league and people in it better than most. Ken HOlland most certainly qualifies in that regard. Nevermind a long and impressive list of success over the decades.
There is no question he has the full reigns here IMO and can remove and hire whomever he likes sans Bob Nicholson.
It will take time though and who knows if Katz has the appetite for seeing that through and if he really has learned not to parrot what the Lowe/MacTavish ear buds have been telling him to do.
Lots and lots of areas to improve for them, but a pretty good starting point is a guy like Holland.

mediocre hire is what I'd think if i were an Oilers fan...
while he's not terrible, he isn't a young GM with new ideas and concepts for the new NHL...
He's a GM that was put out to pasture by an organization he helped build, in favor of a younger more successful GM.
Holland was propped up by Yzerman and Nill for 15 years....and the franchise started sinking after they left
good hire Oilers...

Someone past his prime who has survived in his position far beyond what his success would merit?
That just has 'Oilers' written all over it.

I really hope K. Gretzky can land another gig as GM and does a wondrous job. It's absolutely unprofessional how Edmonton has handled this important position.

I'm betting that Kevin Lowe is riding Holland around like a pony by lunch time, and he's fetching Mac-T's juice box by end of day one.

Isn't Detroit, as a city, pretty slummy? So he's possibly going from Detroit to Edmonton which is also a very drab place. This makes me question his decision making. That makes me happy.

Does anyone know the calculations of how much Edmonton is paying TM, Chia, Holland, and other people I can't remember they're paying?

How much is Yzerman getting and how much did Lou get to unretire in Toronto? Probably the only contenders I can see.

I am sure. "We would like you to move to Eastern Siberia to operate our nuclear plant with a questionable safety record". Being the Oilers GM is similarly attractive.

I'm of the opinion that Holland must be earning double what he normally would've in Detroit for a contract length exceeding what Detroit could offer.
I think it is probably along the lines of him being bumped to president and making a bit less than yzerman in Detroit,or making double that in Edmonton for a time frame exceeding what Detroit offered.
Ie. His money is doubled but also guaranteed.
Pretty sure Hitchcock had the same kind of enticement: pay out his entire remaining stars contract PLUS a new contract with term that pays him out fired or not.
