First time in Flames history to have two different goalies with 20 wins in a season. Rittich with 27W and Smith with 23W.
Close seconds - Elliott(26)/Johnson(18), Vernon(37/23)/Wamsley(17/18).

This was talked about on Fan 960 today a bit.
Smith career vs Avs. 11-1-4. .931 sv%. That’s the best career save % he has against any team in the NHL...except the San Jose Sharks. He’s also at .931 against them.

Well, I guess that settles it. Starting game 1. Hopefully he doesn't crap the bed.

Goalie chart update
Code:
Player # Last 5 Last 10 Last 15 Last 20 QS%
Smith 41 0.922 0.920 0.916 0.908 51%
Opp 0.479 0.515 0.538 0.538
Rittich 44 0.917 0.912 0.901 0.899 64%
Opp 0.533 0.554 0.543 0.544
Both stoppers looking great in their last five and ten. Rittich seeing stronger opposition in those time periods.
Flames up to .903 on the season now, good for 19th spot in the league which is a big move.

Taking a while to get to 5000

To me, career SVS vs Colorado doesn't mean a whole lot, but I think the record against them this season does.
Rittich should start.

From a philosophical standpoint I am much more prepared to have Rittich come off the bench after a shaky smith start than to have smith come off the bench for a shaky Rittich start.

I thought they were playing Smitty so that they can rest up Rittich for the playoffs.

Mike Smith has started six and Rittich four of the last ten games. Neither player appears to be getting rested, and neither looks to have been designated the playoff starter yet. I take Peters at his word that this will be the most closely guarded secret leading all the way up to the final hours before Game #1, and this is really a great position to be in. Both goalies look good, and without a clear starter weeks before the playoffs it is more difficult for the opposing team to scout the Flames.

That's it for me as well. Put Smith in there and if he can continue his play of late that should be good enough to get through the first round and keep Rittich in the back pocket for when Smith falters. I feel Rittich plays better coming off the bench or after sitting behind Smith than he does over extended starts. It appears to be a foregone conclusion now that Smith will be starting game one of the playoffs.

Hopefully by now people can actually trust in the coaches.
We are in great form, both goalies playing well and ending the best season in almost 30 years.
I'm excited for whatever decision they make and confident in both goalies. Feels good to say that.

Smith’s glove has been on fire tonight. As long as teams aren’t directing shots to his 5, 6 and 7 hole, I like his chances of being a big time factor throughout the playoffs.
