I assume the 1 was Farkas himself but then you never know...

I definitely want pragmatism. I don’t see blowing in the wind as pragmatic. There is a difference between reviewing the data and changing your mind becuase you are incorrect and changing your opinion to be on the winning side or because that stance is the least controversial. Having been represented by DCU forever I don’t remember her doing or proposing anything interesting.

Sounds like Demong wanted to submit a hurt feelings report after being booed at the pipeline rally today.

Farkas motioned to cut council wages by 5% across the board, which was voted 14-1 against (only Farkas himself voting for). Whoever seconded his motion to even get it voted on must have also voted against.
Farkas then posted his post on Facebook, stating that councillors are due for a 2.9% increase.
The reality is that councillors will receive a pay decrease this year due to the established formula.

It was never brought to a vote because nobody seconded it. He made up the voter cards himself.

I wasnt there but read what he said...I mean cmon man. Bad example to use for a number of reasons. Mainly because Quebec doesn't give a eff if we buy their stupid cheese because we're already forced to, and even if Albertans were buying record numbers of overpriced cheese they'd still block our pipeline.
And then his "you call yourselves Canadians"? comments? First off no, not really anymore. And secondly refusing to support or buy other Province's goods is basically a core national identity at this point, lord knows we didn't have may to start off with anyway. Taking a lesson from BC and Quebec.

He'll love it - fits his martyr complex beautifully.

And he blocks anyone on FB that points out his false statements. So his FB becomes an echo chamber where everyone who comments appears to confirm that the sun shines from the nether regions of the esteemed ward 11 Councillor.

Which is why the original vote to freeze salaries failed. Once they got the updated numbers, the vote to freeze was actually unnecessary.

From what I've seen online about the Rally, Demong is going to need to do some PR for his tone deaf statements.
Sounded a lot like a politician telling his constituents what they should think, and not listening to what the constituents are saying about not having jobs.

https://twitter.com/CBCScott/status/1074770739654463489
The rundown:
-Sutherland proposes pay freeze for 2019 with info that there may be a 2.6% increase
-Farkas wants to amend freeze to make a 5% cut; no second so the motion dies
-Farkas wants another amendment for a freeze for rest of term (beyond 2019); no second so the motion dies
-Mayor and councilors debate about politicians getting too involved in their own pay, blah blah
-Farkas wants to amend freeze to be reduction if formula calls for a reduction; Chu seconds; motion defeated
-Council hears they may be in line for a reduction anyway, in which case Sutherland votes for his motion to be defeated; it is defeated 9-6
" Scott DippelVerified account @CBCScott 4h4 hours ago
So a bit of gymnastics there... let's review. Councillor who wants a pay freeze votes against his own motion because it turns out council may be getting a pay cut according to city formula. Councillor who wants a pay cut for 2019 ends up voting in favour of freeze. Clear?"

I have a feeling that Farkas is just winging it most of the time. What kind of job did he do before this? Was there some component of having to think things through?

Let's not kid around - Farkas is going to be running for Mayor. And the anti Silly Hall crowd won't care what he actual abilities are, just that here's there to "drain the swamp".

Dumb question....
Preface to dumb question: I moved to Calgary in 2008.
Who was the last 'good' mayor? Or has there been one?

If you're interested in how it all went down in Council chambers: https://globalnews.ca/video/4772054/...uncil-meeting/
Earlier in the day, Farkas' Notice of Motion to support Alberta's oil and gas industry literally saw his name being removed as the author because he refused to withdraw a Whereas statement that suggested YYCCC had previously supported anti-pipeline organizations. A revised motion ended up going forward (under Councillor Demong's name); Farkas later tried to have his name added to the motion by conceding he should have withdrawn the statement, but that vote failed.
