Hamonic smashed that helmet of his into the ground after the Kunitz elbow. I wonder if that was just frustration, or if the helmet made things worse?

Almost certainly frustration. He smashed his stick into the roof of the tunnel as well.

Doh. It took me three watches to see Neal touching the puck. I thought it was Bennett to Ryan to Hanifin to Ryan.

I think he smashed his stick because the concussion spotter took him out of the game - I could be wrong though.

I think it's more of a 'I can't believe I hurt my face again' type of thing. He's taken so much damage this year

With the way the 3rd period went, a lot of people are forgetting that. Crawford was in God-mode in the first period, and the Flames could easily have blown them out before they ever got going.

It was a very entertaining game, and the Flames were sloppy defensively. But for the most part, they played well, and were dominant.

It was also great that, when needed, Smith was HUGE.

A good team can't become a great team without solid goaltending - every team will have stretches where they the other team is in control and getting chances.

I think Peter Maher once said that you truly see what a team is from games 20 to 40. Games 1-20 isn't a good indicator.

Seven games into the true test period and I really like what I see from Peters. He's either pushing the right buttons or the team is just gelling like they similar to the mid 00s.

Gio has been an absolute beast and has to be the Norris front runner.

Johnny and Mony have been good, but as expected.

Lindholm has been a revelation and an amazing addition.

Hopefully things keep rolling here and the Flames keep collecting points. I almost hate being this optimistic haha.

What I’ve been most impressed with so far this season has been how we’ve been able to call up and insert so many rookies into the lineup and how they’ve all been able to make positive contributions.

I thought Eat Bread looked fantastic last night. He easily could have had 2 or 3 points. Hopefully he gets rewarded with at least a goal next game.

I think part of the issue is that Flames have been dominating teams of late (a few blowouts and against weaker teams), so when a team pushes back it looks like they're playing sloppy.

I thought the Flames basically dominated/played even for 75-80% of game. All 4 lines had dominate shifts, the PP scored twice and PK was fine. When there were breakdowns (breakaways), Smith bailed out the team -- which he hasn't done very much this year.

Hamonic, Ryan, Bennett, Neal and Smith stood out for me. Flames should be beating the lesser teams in the league which they are doing this year, so I'm happy.

Go Flames Go!
And I think that's key.

As fans we all assume "our team" is in charge of everything. When they dominate it's because they are good, when they don't it's because they took their foot off the gas.

The other team has a say in things.

Having said that I liked that Monahan mentioned they were cheating after the first. Things were going so well they all started leaning offensively to get their points and it went the other way.

We saw that in the first. We saw it in the second after the five minute penalty, and we saw it again in the third with the late push by Chicago.

The next step for this team is to play the game that is front of them ... when the other team is on the ropes go throat but don't cheat offensively when the other team is pushing.

Does anyone know who Hamonic had in the dad's box?

Linesman 2 drops the puck and Tkachuk, following the play, immediately clips his skate and takes him out too.

What are the odds?
All your linesmen belong to Chucky!

That was hilarious!

Hamonic is a warrior. Broken nose smorken nose. He still plays hard and even gets down to block shots. He battles. He makes others look at him and feel ashamed for not battling as hard, so they start battling harder too. Love Hamonic.

I was wondering that as well, they said his name but I didn't catch it. Maybe his father-in-law?

Any word on if Kunitz gets a suspension for the vicious elbow to the head of Travis Hamonic?

He certainly should.

Good win, sloppy defensive play, even though they dominated the game for a good while out the traps. Will need to tighten that up or they’ll get run around by Columbus. I have faith they will, though.

It looks like he did know it was offside and just decided to make a circus save. He easily could have saved it with his hands if he played it normally.

Mangiapane played fewer than 9 minutes but I was impressed by his compete level. He had 3 shots, but one of them looked real good. I say keep him in for another game.
