Korpisalo had a rough year last year.
Quote:
Korpisalo’s primary focus is playing with more consistency. He owns a career 31-24-6 mark in the NHL, and last season, he posted career-worst numbers in goals against average (3.32) and save percentage (.897).

Or, they have a back to back and they're starting Korpisalo against the worse team?

That is some Oilers-level of idiocy right there.

It depends if he's asking Nylander to take a discount or just a fair deal. *if* it is true he wants 8 million per, that's too much. All of you would laugh at that deal if they signed it. If they want him to take a David Pastrynak type deal, is that a discount?
The Wings just signed Larkin for 6.1 million per long-term.
I am confidant they are offering him minimum 6-6.5 million per.

They do have back-to-back and are starting BoBo against the better team and in the BJ's home opener.
Nothing to see here, BoBo is not on the block, teams often use 2 goalies in a season.

And he believes he is worth more than that....and when you look around the league at comparables and build in some inflation from when some other deals were signed...he has a pretty good case.
The Leafs are in cap hell and have 12 million to play with...its a fascinating dynamic.

"Right now, I do not know more than all the rest of you," Nylander said, per Google Translate. "I have not received any message and have no contact with Toronto. It's my agent who takes care of everything."
"Yes, it is clear that there is a lot of money, but in the end I have to take care of myself and do it myself and my agent thinks is right," Nylander said. "Especially if it's about several years to come. I have to think long-term. It's my own future it's about."
"No, but I saw highlights from the match in the morning," Nylander said. "Those were great goals. I want to play, but now it's the way it is.
"But I want to stay in Toronto."

Yeah, no other GM would have figured that one out at all.
Players don't generally score goals in a vacuum.
He's likely to still produce at a pretty good clip.

2015-2016 - 15 goals (25 years old)
2016-2017 - 34 goals (26 years old)
2017-2018 - 40 goals (27 years old)
Two of those years he was joined at the hip with Tavares. One of those years he wasn't. Want to guess which one?

Not unusual, though, for a young guy to improve as he reaches his prime.
In the first year, was he getting 1st line minutes with premium PP time, just with another centre? Or was he a 3rd line guy getting little PP time.

I never said he was inflated by Tavares but the fact is he was still coming off a 40 goal season, is a UFA, and will be 29 years old at the end of his current contract
My personal feeling was just that his value would never be higher than it was at that time, and really once Tavares left that should have signaled a rebuild for the Islanders.
If he has another good season you either just have to shop him as a rental (which probably will be just as good value as it would have been July 1), or sign him to an inflated UFA type contract for a 29 year old.

Sam Bennett, Calgary Flames:
A few posters last night also suggested a trade for Sam Bennett.
Quote:
The fourth-overall selection in the 2014 NHL Draft, Bennett‘s struggled to reach the lofty expectations of Flames’ followers. Projected to become a top-six forward, the 22-year-old has regressed from his promising 18-goal, 36-point debut in 2015-16.
Playing largely on the Flames’ checking lines, Bennett might benefit from a change of scenery. A restricted free agent next summer carrying a $1.95-million cap hit, he could hit the trade block later this season.

Bennett only had 8:47 ice-time and next to nothing on special teams either.

Probably some tough love for the fourth line. Peters seems like the type.

It doesn't exactly scream ‘We are showcasing him for a trade,’ though.

We took 1 penalty and drew 7.
Considering he is a staple on the PK but needs to earn his way onto the 2nd PP unit does it really surprise you he had less than 10mins?
In a game with less PP time he gets 10-12mins easy.
The organization likes the kid and I'm sure they have a plan for him.
