Tkachuk isnt a better passer. Monahan is just as good. There's not really any skill area in which Tkachuk beats Monahan. And his wrist shot accuracy is as good as anyone. He's not just very good. I bet in a skills competition he'd compete with the best.

When you consider he's young, getting better and scored at the clip he did this year despite the injury, I'd say yes. Especially his penchant for scoring game winning and overtime goals. He has one of the best releases in the league from within the slot. He's a deadly goal scorer who's only getting better.
Not really interested in trying to convince you the glass is half full when you see just about everything is half empty... but it is.
I think he's an elite goal scorer.

I just can't figure calling Tkachuk elite and not Monahan based on skills. If Tkachuk is so is Monahan. Or they both are not.

How so? In a league starved for goals Monahan has scored 138 goals by the age of 23. That is pretty damn impressive.

Gallagher has always been a player I've wanted on the Flames. Has similar intangibles as Tkachuk. Skates hard and has a good shot and is a hound on the puck. He is on a good contract too.

A Gaudreau-less Monahan is consistently more productive than a Monahan-less Gaudreau. I don’t think Monahan necessarily carries that line, but he is at least as important to the top line as is Gaudreau.

He's also the best defensively among him, Gaudreau and any right winger he's been given.

The past few seasons I've been pretty down on the Flames in general, including Monahan at times. But it's time to give the man his due. Quietly, boringly (perhaps too boring for some) goes about his business and consistently scores, every season. Plays through several injuries last year with nary a complaint. I'll defend him all day

I'm glad you didn't leave. I think we're just about at the point where you tell everyone how cutting edge your are because we just can't handle how real your negativity is.

Yep. Good player. I can say I was one of the posters here that didn’t pile on at the end of the season when Francis and some posters here were calling guys like Monahan and Gaudreau out.

I’m not the one calling other posters Oilers fan-level homers. Your double standard applied between Monahan and Tkachuk is nonsensical.

I don't know how anyone could have watched Monahan handle the puck almost visibly in pain and think he was just dogging it.
