Congratulations to former Flames prospect Brandon Hickey on captaining the 2017/18 Hockey East champions. BU will go on for the national title.

@MikeGrinnell_
Talked with a few guys who play in the ECAC last night and here are some take aways.
-Cornell is legit
-Adam Fox was the best player in college hockey this year

BU upset #3-ranked Cornell today, 3-1, to open their NCAA Tournament.
Hickey extends his season (and College career) by at least one more day. They'll play tomorrow for a spot in the Frozen Four.
Both Hickey and Tkachuk had 1 assist in the win.

BU loses to Michigan 6-3. Hickey's College career is over.
Now we'll see if Arizona can get him signed before he becomes a free agent in August (or if Friedman's report is accurate and they will try to trade his rights). If his rights are traded, I'm not sure what options the acquiring team would have for signing him. I don't know if they'd be able to burn the first year of the ELC or not. I'm also not sure if he could sign a next-year deal and finish the year with a team's AHL squad (other than the Coyotes/Roadrunners).
Brady Tkachuk had one assist in what was likely his final college game.
----------
With BU's loss, the first three Frozen Four teams are: Minnesota-Duluth, Notre Dame, and Michigan. The final spot will be filled by either Ohio State or Denver.
This means that there will be no teams from any of the New England hockey powerhouse colleges in the Frozen Four. The last time there was an all "Western" Frozen Four was 2011. Which, oddly-enough, also featured Minnesota-Duluth, Notre Dame, and Michigan (North Dakota rounded out the field that year).

David Quinn (BU's head coach) told reporters after the loss the Flames tried extremely hard to sign Hickey after last season.
Maybe they are still interested.

Junior forward Ryan Donato and sophomore defenseman Adam Fox were named CCM/AHCA Hockey Division I First Team All-Americans, the American Hockey Coaches Association announced tonight (April 6). Fox is a two-time All-American – the 12th player in program history to achieve that feat, while Donato earned All-America recognition for the first time.
|
Quite an achievement for Fox to be named an All-American in each of his first two college seasons. Even Gaudreau only received All-American honours in his sophomore and junior seasons.
Henrik Borgstrom, who recently signed with the Panthers, is the only other player to repeat as a first-team All-American from last season.

Some bad news for Harvard: Oliver Wahlstorm projected top 10 pick in the 2018 draft, has switched commitment to Boston College from Harvard according to multiple reports.
He was considering all options for some time, but still a blow for Harvard

Makes sense if he's not planning on finishing his degree.

I wonder if this will give teams pause before drafting him. He's already deciding to pick what team he plays for, if he's drafted by a team he doesn't like he could not sign and do the same.
The whole college draft pick thing is complete bs

I see it as the opposite. He's picking a college that he can go to for a year or two and then turn pro.

Wahlstrom is the guy I want from this draft, if he falls out of the top 10 I hope we acquire a 1st and snag him.

He’s ranked 5th by ISS and 6th by Redline. Seems very unlikely he’ll fall out of the top 8 from the looks of it.

I agree completely, but IF he does slide, I wouldnt be upset if the flames trade a significant player for the pick.
