Swaziland’s football’s top flight – the Swazi Premier League – is awash with delightfully odd football team names: Green Mamba, Royal Leopards, Mhlumi Peacemakers, Young Buffaloes, Mhlambanyatsi Rovers – while further down the tiers you’ll find Never Die, Russian Bombers, and, er, Manchester United.Eleven Men In Flight, however, get top prize.
We may as well get this one over with: the outfit nicknamed Los Wankeros [Peru] are genuinely derived from the Wanka tribe, an indigenous people who speak the Quechua language and were once part of the Inca Empire.
Moron is part of Buenos Aires – they have a Bishop of Moron and a Moron University – but it’s best known for its Primera B Metropolitana unit Deportivo, whose jerseys have BINGO MORON plastered proudly across the chest.
Botswana might miraculously have the edge on even Swaziland when it comes to deranged team names, with Kanye Swallows, Green Lovers, Extension Gunners, Galaxy and Two-Two-Five – which sounds worryingly like a confusing rival to this very website – all in the running. But Miscellaneous FC, based in Serowe, stand out for failing to even be arsed to come up with a specific name.
Red and white will be the colours. As they should be.
The colours will be green, red, and black. Adding Calgary red to the existing Foothills colour scheme. Also, Spruce Meadows branding features dark green prominently.

Why do teams in North American leagues must feel the need to add "FC" or United in there name. So lame. We get you're a football club.
Shrug... it's part of the tradition of the sport. I mean we shouldn't have "United" or "Real" in the title because those names arise out of a certain context (We're not an official Spanish speaking country so "Real" doesn't apply and unless the team will be buying up and amalgamating other clubs "United" doesn't work either) but I don't have a problem with "Name + FC".

We should have called ourselves the Fort Calgary Cheddar Astronauts just to mess with people's expectations of what a good soccer name is. Plus, the logo potential would have been off the charts.

If there can be a group that marches in to the grounds as one group with Cavalry marching beat drum and horns leading the way, that could make it a fun way to start a match.
And.. someone hire local artist Corb Lund for opening day. His song "I wanna be in the Cavalry" is a fitting theme.
Too bad the media hasn't been better about covering the whole CPL launch. That one twitter account you posted has a photo of him arriving at Spruce Meadows with 4 guys dressed up as soldiers on horses outside so I think the Cavalry name reports are probably accurate.

Anyone know how this kind of thing works. For instance, is it up to the CPL to send out a press release to all the media inviting them out? Or is up to Spruce Meadows?
Sounds like it's going to be the Green Ring that's converted into a stadium.
Doesn't look like a clean square, so quite interested to see what the plans are. Definitely some nice architecture there to work with.
Yes you're right... I was expecting the international ring with some construction work to utilize the existing stands. The green ring has no existing grandstands unless you count the pavilion so they will be almost starting from scratch. And that judges/media stand in the corner will need to be moved for sure.
Also interesting that earlier today it surfaced Victoria is getting a team as well. Maybe there is hope yet for Kelowna.
