Thinking staycation at Hotel Elan, so looking for easy (after a bottle of wine+) walking distance from there...

I live a few buildings over from Hotel Elan. Vintage is within drunken stumbling range, but it's about a ~15-20 minute walk. Is that within your tolerance?
There are plenty of casual dining establishments in the area, but fewer options on the same level as Alloy for fine dining. I haven't personally tried it yet and can't give a recommendation, but you could consider Royale. It seems to meet all your requirements: nearby location, decent wine list, good looking menu...

There's also Avec on 11th Ave and 5th St. I've been there a few times and have always had a good experience.

Mirchi2Go just opened in Montgomery, on 16th Ave. NW. Second location of the Mirchi restaurant downtown. A smallish hole-in-the-wall. Excellent Pakistani cuisine though.

After duelling it out with odds on favourite, chef Lafevre, in the famous Iron Chef Kitchen Stadium, Nicole came short and was Eliminated
Coming in second among all of these crazy talented chefs is no small feat especially when you're facing James Beard winners and chefs who hold Michelin stars. Congrats Nicole!

John Gilchrist just announced he's retiring in June after 37 years as food critic with CBC, the Herald, and elsewhere.
I wonder what the last restaurant he reviews will be? Maybe an old favourite?

I recall reading an article he wrote a few years ago where he said if he was ever in a "last meal situation", he'd want it to be at Crazyweed in Canmore.

Good for him.
I never found him to be pretentious in his reviews.

Hopefully it does better than the restaurants that have been there before.

He was the defacto voice on food here in Calgary for a long time. Lately he’s lost a step (yearly bests are far from), but your right he is always genuine.
Looking forward to his last review!

I've never thought a distinctive looking, well recognized food critic had a lot of credibility in evaluating and reporting what an average person might experience in terms of food quality and service. I saw him several times at various restaurants where I happened to be dining over the years and it would be fair to say he got significantly more attention than other diners.

Has anyone been to Foreign Concept? What do you think? I've been watching the chef on Top Chef Canada and she's doing really well. I hope to try it out in a few weeks.

New in Bridgeland - Elwood & The Rabbit:
https://elwoodandtherabbit.com
Menu is not extensive, but what we had was good. They have three plates for couples to share. We liked:
16 oz. Bench Mark Dried Aged Ribeye
creamed kale, pickled shimji, smoked fingerlings, chimichurri, fois gras butter
Free corkage on Sundays.
