What do you expect. According to that article the arena was built in 1072. Seems they got pretty good life out of the building.

Glad to hear no injuries were reported. Skated there a lot as a kid.

Well they almost got a thousand years out of it, not too shabby.

I don't recall playing there very often but I remember being there at least twice as a youngster. Even 20 years ago when I was playing minor hockey that place seemed like a dump.

This is devastating news for Women's hockey ... eeeek!!! I think just over 50 women's teams play at this rink each month. I'm sure minor hockey will take a hit as well

I didn't mind it for ice hockey, but a few times when I was playing roller hockey in the mid-00s, they had to tape off a portion of the arena due to malfunctioning sump system and sewage backups. A couple times in a single season/year is somewhat okay, but a couple times per year each year... brutal.

Not surprised the roof of that dump caved in.

My son just played there last week at 5:30 pm. One week earlier and we would have been in the dressing room. That's scary.

Good on the people that noticed and reported a problem and the quick action by the City and other departments involved. This could have been a huge disaster.

I played most of my Minor Hockey at Fairview Arena with Heritage Hockey Association. I was disappointed they took down all the old pictures in the lobby.

Thoughts and prayers. The survivor's guilt must be oppressive beyond anything we can imagine.

If you've ever been inside the Plainsmen arena in Airdrie during hail or heavy rain, you will question the stability of its roof as well, another 1970's building.

While it may not have been the nicest rink in the city, this will affect both adults and kids playing hockey.

That's too bad.

Typical internet a$$hat comment. nice to pick only a part of the comment.

Hope your afternoon get better than your obvious lackluster morning.
